6 month check-up, calorie info

I know the following topics have come up before, so I thought I would share the info I got today at my 6 month check up (2 weeks early). The dietician told me that I should be shooting for 1000-1200 calories, 60 grams of protein, and 6 oz portion sizes. She also said that if I wanted to stop taking the chewable vitamins, standard complete vitamins are fine now, but to break them in half first to help them dissolve quicker. And a 10-15 pound monthly loss is great for months 6-12, but don't be surprised if the scales don't move a great deal, but the inches are still coming off. BTW- I had a major WOW moment at Goodwill today. I had 2 hours between my appointments, so I went shopping. I bought 2 bags full of really nice size 16 and 18 clothes. It was so amazing to try clothes on and think "WOW, I look goooooood in this" instead of thinking "Wow, this does a great job of hiding my a@@!" My total as of today: 83 since surgery, 110 pounds in the last year. Woohoo!

Thanks so much for posting that. I consistently eat 1200-1400 cal/day and thought I was failing and going to gain all my weight back. I am not losing many pounds right now- just maintaining- but I am at a normal BMI- so I think it will come off slowly from here on out. Thanks for sharing!!! Holly

Steph- Happy early birthday! I am sure you will get a great report since you have been doing sooooooo awesome lately! Janie- That is what was so cool about the new clothes... I actually forgot what it was like to try on things and think I actually looked good! It was a really good day to start with though, because I had a pair of "skinny jeans" in the closet that I try on once a month and they actually fit well enough yesterday morning that I got to wear them!!! I have a 6 month picture to post with me in them. I'll try to get it posted tonight. Holly- I am relieved to hear someone say they are at the 1200 calorie range, too, although I have 53 pounds to go before I am in the "normal" BMI range. (AND HUGE CONGRATS on that accomplishment!) That is probably why I am still consistantly losing 2-3 pounds a week, because I have so much more to go than you. My calories always come in between 1000 and 1400 and it has been stressing me out lately, so I can totally relate to what you are saying. BUT as the nutritionist reminded me, when I get to a maintenance point, I will probably be at 1800 calories, which is considered totally normal for a woman depending on your activity level. So that helped put it into perspective for me! See, you actually will have to increse your calories eventually!

OH- thanks sooo much!!! Some days I do eat more- so that's great!!! I have been waiting for the scale to start creeping up as it has so often in the past after I would lose weight- now I know why it hasn't. I have to say- I think I could live like this- I mean- I can eat a lot of food with that many calories!!! I could stand to lose another 15-20 pounds- but I am still pleased if I get stuck here. I can even wear size 10's now!!! So I'm not the only one with skinny jeans hanging in the closet for trying on purposes? Thanks again- Holly

That's terrific to hear! I know for me it's still feels odd, looking at myself and saying wow, I look good in this shirt, etc. It's such a terrific feeling. Congrats on your success so far.

Wooohooooo that is so awesome Bella, congratulations and thanks for sharing that valuable tidbit about what we are supposed to be doing at this time. Definitely makes me feel better because I know I can eat more then 4 oz's and was getting worried. Anna
