Weightloss Failure!
Hi Laura...
I guess that I would first like to know what surgery you had. Next, when you had it. What was your pre-op weight, and your now post-op weight.
There could be a million little things that are contributing to a slow loss. Perhaps with a bit more information, the wonderful ladies and gentlemen on this board could help you to sort things out.
Just to let you know...we all get stuck at times. The trick is being patient, and most importantly, being accountable for our behaviours. Let us know what's going on with your eating and exercise habits...we'd love to give you any advice that we can.
I'm looking forward to hearing more from you, Laura.

Lap-band surgery was in January. SW 275, CW 246. I have a very sedentary full time job. I walk in the evenings, but my consistency is not what it should be - probably twice or three times / wk. My eating habits are not the best, but I try to stick with high protein & lots of water. I have a weakness for carbs which brings me to something that has been on my mind lately. Since the number one addiction in this country is to food, I wonder what the success rate is for food addicts that have this surgery. I can't be the only carb junkie who ever had this surgery. I wonder if they have struggled like me and more importantly, what they did to overcome their bad habits. Thank you for responding. The board is so positive. I feel like a wet blanket! But I could really use some support right now.
Okay Laura...first off...we are here to support you in any way that we can. Most of us on this board, with the exception of Moni, have had the RNY...but I think that I can safely say that we were probably ALL carb addicts before surgery. It is a hard habit to break, but it can be done.
First off, everything that you eat should be sugar free!! I am not going to lie...it really sucks at first. But, honestly for me, it is now like a game to see what I can bake or make or buy that has no sugar and yet keeps the entire household happy! Because of the band, you won't have the risk of dumping as many of us do. A fair amount of change will come simply from you being able to change your habits one by one.
The fact that you say you stick mostly to high protein and lots of water is a big plus. Keep that up!! Try logging what you eat on a daily basis and make sure that you are keeping within your surgeon's recommendations for you and your surgery. We must hold ourselves accountable if these surgeries are to work.
A good point was brought up by several other posters...fills? I honestly don't know a great amount of info about them, only that it can in some cases take up to a year to find your "sweet spot". It sounds like you just aren't there yet. I would check with your surgeon to see what can be done to refine where your fill is. Perhaps it isn't restrictive enough.
Lastly, I think that it will help you to remember that you chose the band, both personal and specific reasons. What were they? Try to reaffirm each morning what those reasons were for this choice, and try to carry that in your head all day long. It definately helps me to find the motivation to get on and stay on the treadmill for the entire time I should be there!! lol. You have lost 30 pounds...that's nothing to feel disappointed about. It may take you slightly longer to get where you want to be, but you absolutely can do this!!! Also, check out the lap band board...I am sure that they can give you a wealth of information. But, please know that we would love to see you as a regular around here, as well !!

Hi
I am another Lap Band girl here, I was a carb addict too. Now here is a few question for you...are you eating and drinking at the same time? how many calories do you consume a day? To little can stop the weightloss, it's called the starvation syndrome...
Do you graze? I know it's hard...and the lap band is harder than the RNY but it's doable and you did loose weight so you can probably still do it...
And how many fills did you get..
I know most of the girls here are RNY, that is why I don't post very often...as they loose faster than band patients..and our band rules are different too...
Check out Band2Gether.net that is a great online resource for us bandies..
Good luck
Gina
Good Morning Laura:
How many fills have you had so far? I had the RNY but I was reading a post yesterday from a person who had the Lap band and someone told her that some ppl do not experience good loss until after their 5th or 6th fill in. I am going to copy the post below...hope this helps and don't be discouraged! The lap band is supposed to be slower and 30 lbs is not bad!
This is the post I read yesterday to another lap bander who was feeling discouraged about her loss....
I am sorry that you are feeling down, I wont get on my soap box and tell you that it will get better because I am sure that is the last thing you want to hear right now.
What I will say to you is that you have to remember the reason why you picked to have the lapband. I will say that even fill 2 might not get you where you want to be but I am sure that even today, there got to be something positive that you can grab and hold on to until the scale catch up with you.
You are beautiful, you are a beautiful butterfuly just waiting to emerge, dont give up, just remember, the lapband is not the fastest for weight loss, but your tool will work as soon as you get it properly filled so that all the work is not on you.
This was from another poster
of course i am not speaking from experience on this one but i've heard many banders say they didn't get full restriction until the 3rd or 4th fill. while some had restriction from day one. you know it varies. just keep pushing on. you will get your "nitch" and things will be fine.
Feel better
