Fresh fruit

Okay- now that fresh fruit season is here- what are you guys doing? Are you eating it? How much? I would think fruit would be a good carb- but I was shocked when I found out how many carbs were in some of the fruit I was eating... What are you guys doing? Thanks- Holly

Hi Holly. I eat fruit. In fact it was my first meal post-op. My doc says its fine. I eat banannas, peaches,plums, watermelon.... It is good carbs and fruit has so many vitamins and nutrients. Im a firm believer that NOTHING is off limits as long as we eat our protein first and watch the white products like rice and potatoes. I still eat them, just in moderation, and I substitute whole wheat whenever possible like for pasta or bread. Apples are loaded with fiber which is good for us and helps with constipation problems too! Banannas are full of potassium, citrus, vitamin C..... Go ahead and enjoy some fruit!!! Mary

I do eat fruit, but not tons. But have no clue how many carbs are in them. So shock me. How much are in them. I love watermelon and grapes. How many carbs are in them???

1 cup of grapes- which uncut is not very much- has 28 carbs.

Hi Holly - I eat fruit. I like canteloupe, strawberries, blueberries, watermelon, grapes, ect.... I don't eat alot at one time, but I can eat a few pieces. I haven't tried oranges or citrusy fruits - I probably should . My nut. told me to increase my fruit to help w/ bathroom issues if ya know what I mean.... Fruit are good carbs - it's natural sugar, but some are very high in carbs. I guess like everything else its all in moderation. Go and enjoy some fruit.... Marta

I try to limit it to one serving a day because of the carbs. My favorites right now are watermelon and oranges. YUMMO!

I eat no sugar added applesauce a few times a week when I crave something sweet or fruity. The Great Value Walmart brand is really yummy and sweet. But I also love fresh fruits too. Grapes, oranges, and sometimes pineapple. Those are my favorites!

Hi Holly, I love fresh fruit and do it on occasion. I try to save it for those times that I would be snacking on something not high in protein any way. I went to a snow shack yesterday to get hubby and Logan a snow cone and to see if they had sugar free. She was out but had smoothies. I asked what was in them and she said fresh fruit and ice. I had one and it was peach and mango...omg can you say delish!!! Hope this helps!! Anna

Anna- A smoothy sounds awesome. I tried to get one a couple of weeks ago at King's Island when the kids were getting Iceys, but unfortunately they added fruit syrup and ice cram to it instead of freash fruit and ice. Oh well. I did get a Lemon Shake Up at a carnival a couple of days ago and they made it with Splenda! OMG! It was awesome made with the freah lemons. I am definitely going to try making real lemonade here this summer! Belle

We have the best fruit here in Sicily!! The open-air markets offer in abundance of fresh fruits and they are so wonderful!! I praise God everytime I eat a fruit and tolerate it fine because I enjoy it so much!!! I have not had a problem with fruits but I figure because it's natural sugars. With the heat here it is truly refreshing! Adrianne
