Maybe I'm not doin too bad
Hiya fellow January surgery folks
Well I so love this site, I've been feeling like I'm not losing like I should that I'm doin everything wrong, cause I've only lost 70 pounds since surgery and will be out 5 months in aproximately 3 weeks ... but after reading some profiles I may actually be in the norm crowd... Has anyone else felt that they are not losing as they should or not eating what you should?? Just curious??? Well hope everyone keeps up the losing and feelin more and more better every day.... Happy Memorial Day!!
Sonya,
I've had ups and downs where I felt like I was stuck and not losing, or not losing as fast as others, but I've learned that each of our bodies has a rhythm and we WILL all lose, just at a different pace.
My surgery was 1/9/07 and I've lost 67.2. I'm very happy with my progress, but of course looking forward to my goal. It is so thrilling to have weight loss success after years of yo-yo dieting!
As far as eating, I have days where I know I've made excellent choices, days where I've not eaten enough and days where I've eaten too much of the wrong things. It is still very similiar to the will power that it takes to diet; to eat correctly and make good choices. It is just so much easier with the power of the tool that we have been blessed with to control hunger, keep us from eating too fast and too much, cause us to watch our carb intake!!
Keep up the good work and you have a great Memorial Day weekend too!
Sounds like you are doing great to me! I was a little discouraged at the beginning although I was losing the average I just kept reading about those losing faster and since I figured I was an "above-average" kind of gal that should also apply to the weight loss.
I had a friend who had the surgery tell me about how one of her friends had the surgery the same week, they weighed the same, same bmi everything, well this friend loss twice as fast but she also has tons of excess skin and looks extremely unhealthy whereas my friend looks and feels fabulous and you would never know she had ever been obese.
I think the slower pace may be more beneficial, although I really think you are on track.
70 lbs is wonderful!!
Adrianne
Hey Adrianne: You think just like I do! I always have considered my self above average and at first was disappointed when I did not exceed my surgeons "average" weight loss amount in the first 3 months. I was really sad at first. But now, I too realize that slow and stead will work for me. We have this time to adjust to our new healthier eating lifestyles and will reach our ultimate goal and feel good about it!
My surgery was on 1/31/07. I get so jealous at seeing others losing more than me LOL..... I am so proud that i am down 59 pds and that i am Onederland!!!! Sometimes i know i should be getting in more protein and water... i sometimes think that... that is why im not losing faster...... I also know i should get more exercise in... just so much to do in a day.. and im exhausted by the evening...... I do notice when i up my protein... i lose more and lose faster... i know what i gotta do... i just gotta keep doing it......
Don't feel alone, I know I need to drink more water, excersie and get more protien as well, but I agree it's just not enough time in the day for a full time working mother, wife, daughter and sister... I have so many faces I carry everyday when I see a bed... I completely crash!!!
Congradulations on being in Onderville, I can't wait to join you there!!!!!
Sonya-
You're not doing bad- you're ROCKIN!!!
I agree everyone loses at a different pace. I weighed in 10 days after surgery and had not lost a pound- not ONE!!! I was almost hysterical!!! Eventually my body started letting go and the weight came off at a good pace and now I've lost 3 pounds in the past 3 weeks. It's crazy and unpredictable!!!
I have SERIOUS sagging skin- but i've not been good about exercising- so it could be the loss or the lack of toning... and then there's the fact that I carried quadruplets for 32 weeks and then triplets til 34. I have a serious kangaroo pouch!!! I can pull it up and close my pants- or tuck it in- very pretty!!!
I would like to say I was really good about what i ate- but it was more like the lack of what I ate. Now my hunger is back and I'm almost afraid to say- it's kinda like the diet mentality for me again- except healthier and a little easier.
There were times when I felt like I was the least compliant person on this board- I'm still trying to change my habits. I have good days and bad... but ALWAYS better than before surgery.
I think you're doing great!!
Happy Memorial day to you too!!!
Holly
Holly, first off...WOW, you are a baby carrying machine ha!!! , That is too awesome!!!
I can definately relate to appetite being back, girl sometimes I feel like I could eat an apple pie and ice cream any minute and I have to convence myself I don't want it, like you said the diet mentality for me as well!! but the too awesome part is that we have a tool that stops us ..eventually...
