Skinnier but balding

I thought that the hair falling out happened immediatly after surgery and I was already "out of the woods" so to speak with that issue. But I guess I had it all wrong... just within the last 2 weeks I have begun to loose large clumps of hair, so I searched through the questions and answers section of this web site and found out that the hair loss actually does not typicallly begin until 3-6 months out. Well I'm right within that range. Apparently (for those who were wondering) the lack of protien in the first few weeks and months after surgery damages the hair folicle so a process begins that causes the hair to fall out weeks later and can continue for the first year post op. Since my surgeon does not do a restricted protien diet I am wondering how much damage has already occurred. My hair is thin already so this is scary for me. I prayed to be skinny, but didn't realize I needed to also pray to keep my hair. Is it too late? (I'll start praying today and remind God I like my hair, and prefer to keep as much as I can from this point on, since he already knows the number of hairs on my head)

Hey Lor, sorry to hear about your hair thinning out..I have been expecting mine to start any day now. I knew that i was going to be between 3-6 months when it started and I am seeing alot more in the comb when I fix my hair in the morning. I have been taking biotin pills since about 6 weeks post op and my hair stylist has been giving me deep conditioning ever two weeks. So hopefully this will help. And just a side note..I love the scripture reference about God knowing the number of hairs we all have on our heads!! Also, don't be too discouraged...everyone that I talked to said their hair grew back stronger and thicker than it was before surgery!

Lori, I just posted the question about when the hair loss occurs on the TX message board and then I came over here and saw your post. Great minds must think alike! I am sorry you are seeing the thinning. I am waiting for it any moment. I posted my question in the hopes of someone telling me I was out of the woods already. I have been taking Biotin too for some time. I noticed a very fast reaction to taking it. So I am sold on its merit. I just cut my hair really short too so if I do thin, it will probably be noticeable. But I am going to stick a cap on my head or a cute hat or a trendy bandana and go if I do thin out. I don't care. I wouldn't trade the way I feel now for thick hair. Like you I didn't have much to start with. I told my hair dresser that if it got really bad I was going to make her buzz my hair so I could pretend I was Britney Spears or stick a wig on it! Hugs, Caters

yeah, well a buzz is not a choice for me, first off my husband would send me to go live with my mother and second I'm too vain for that

I've never been a part of so many clubs since I've had this surgery! I now get to add the balding club to my list! I have been losing hair terribly despite that I thought I was doing okay on my protein and have even increased it even more. I have or had I should say really thick, long, and curly hair. Not as thick anymore. I was also thinking maybe I should just cut it but I'm thinking the long and curly can mask the thinness. I'd hoped to escape this one guess not. But like a previous poster said, I'd rather have this than the unhealthy weight. Adrianne

Lori- I am losing hair BIG time. I have a good amount of hair and what I have is like dental floss- so I'm still okay for now... BUT it really freaks me out (and hubby too) to see clumps fall out when I wa**** when I bru**** and then all over my clothes throughout the day. One day I left it in the sink- and hubby was like- did you clean your brush- and I was like- no I just brushed my hair (and that wasn't even what came out in the shower). This has been happeneing for atleast 2 weeks- I have heard it will stop- this told to me by my hairdresser... I hope so- I need a haircut anyway!!!! Holly

BooHoo...my hair is falling out in clumps, too!! I have baby fine, very thin hair to begin with and really can't handle much loss without it being quite noticable. I only hope that I am lucky enough to be spared actually having bald patches on my head. Why can't it fall off of my legs instead ? At least then I wouldn't have to shave as often. ~Suz

That was hysterical!! I'm right there with you!! With PCOS I can come up with a few other places I wish the hair would fall off!! ~Sasquatch

Yeah I'm right there with ya...I'd GLADLY give up the hair on my legs but would prefer to keep what I have on my head.
