Getting sick a lot after eating...

Everytime I eat anything good & substantial (and high in protein), I get sick. By sick, I mean vomitting almost immediately. Last week, it was pot roast. Yesterday, it was baked chicken. I chew food thoroughly, but it seems like the moment it hits my esophagus, I can feel the urge to purge. I started to wonder if this could be because I haven't been taking my Pepcid regularly. (Not on purpose, it just happens accidentally.) Or maybe it could be a mild stricture? I have no clue. I have put a phone call into my doctor's nurse, but I'm waiting for a reply. Does anyone else have this trouble? Any ideas?

Cathyrn, I had a similar problem two weeks ago. Even liquids were giving me a problem. Ended up being a combination of things. First, my sinuses were draining big time from alergies and filling my pouch with mucous, 2) while I was chewing everything well, I was eating too rapidly, and 3) my pouch was irriated from all the drainiage. Yesterday, I had the same problem late in the day. And sure enough, my drainiage was back. While it may be a stricture, my surgeon said that it was unlikely and more because of eating too fast and the pouch being full of mucous. I went back to liquids for 3 days to let everything settle and down and was fine until yesterday. I also have a tremendous amount of air in my pouch which makes the problem worse. Hope this helps some. Rich

Wow Rich: Glad they figured that out for you and you are feeling better. Can you tell me what causes air in your pouch??? And is that painful? Thanks Steph

Hi Steph: The air is from swallowing the post nasal drainage and swallowing air when I eat. It is very uncomfortable and sometimes I get a pocket if air stuck in my throat. That is very uncomfortable. I can't say it hurts like other pains but it is bothersome. Rich

Thanks for the information Rich!! I have terrible sinus problems but so far they have not been an issue for me. I am surprised that it has not been a problem though, becuase the pollen has been terrible in TN. Thanks

Rich, Thank you very much. Your reply really helped. I think my problem is similar to yours. My doc's nurse advised me to try and drink hot liquids a couple times a day to flush the drainage out of my system, and I've been doing that, as well as eating slower, because I know I am guilty of trying to eat too fast. And both of those things seem to be helping. I just ate some baked chicken with cheese (which would normally have torn me up) and today I had no problem with it. =)

I had a similar problem and I just had an endoscopy because my surgeon thought it might be a stricture but I ended up having 2 ulcers. My twin sister who also had bariatric surgery and her symptoms were more like yours and she had a beezor, it is when food gets caught in the pouch and gathers into a ball. All they did was an endoscopy and she spent 1 night in the hospital. Hope you get feeling better soon.

Hey Cathryn, Sorry to hear this is still haunting you. I had the same problem thru the first of April, just before I went to New York. I think mine sounds exactly like the problem that Rich has/had. I would eat and almost immediately be running to the bathroom to get sick. When I would, it was all mucous. I was so filled, I didn't even know my pouch could hold that much. I looked it up on the internet and discovered that this is a common problem early out. So maybe you need to take something for drainage and see if that helps. I thought mine was because I didn't take prevacid also, but it wasn't, because even when I started taking the prevacid regularly, I had the same problems. You can definitely see the mucous when you get sick. Are you seeing any? Do you have allergies/sinus bad? Good thing to still ask your doctor's office about it too, just to be on the safe side. I hope you get to feeling better soon. Lindy
