Hello everyone! I had my surgery on January 9, 2007. I am down 77 pounds! I weighed 252 when I had surgery and now I am at 175. I am in a size 10 and my BMI went from 44.6 to 30. I am feeling and looking great. I want to get down to 135 and I hit this nasty plateau. I am so sad over it! Don't get me wrong I am extremely happy with my progress but I feel like I am in a rut doing the same routine every week. Does anyone have any suggestions to what I can do to get this moving again? HELP!

It absolutely sounds like you have done fantastic so far. I went into surgery at 250 and am only at 204 and thought I was doing good. Now I did break my foot so was unable to do much for about 6 weeks so only lost a lb here and there. But am back to working out and doing much better now. I would maybe change your workout routine and up your protein. Also drink more water. About how many calories have you been getting in a day? I'm wondering if I am not eating enough. I only average about 600-800 a day. So I am really interested in knowing how you did so wonderful. Wow. Anna

I am only gettin in about 700-800 calories a day so you are right on target. I wish I could tell you my trick but I am just doing what my doctor tells me. You are doing a great job! Keep up the good work!

You might want to post this on the RNY board for experienced answers but I do vaguely remember that several in my support group mentioned a slight plateau at around the end of of month 3 and the start of 4, I think. That is why I suggest a more experienced group. Do you go to a support group? They are soooooo helpful. I wouldn't worry about the plateau. It could be your body adjusting a bit. I thought I hit a plateau one week but it was the week I started weight training and swelling was pretty common. I dropped 10 pounds the next week. Katy B

I had mysurgery Jan 11 and Ive lost 77lbs as well. But I only only 6 of those lbs this month!! 6 lbs in a month. I wanted to cry!! For the past couple of weeks Ive been bouncing the same 2 lbs around. GAin 2, lose 2, gain 'em back!! It is frustrating. What is your daily menu like? I can eat 1/2 to 1 cup usually, but can also eat a whole lean cuisine meal, 1/2 to 3/4 of a snadwich...Im just curious, like a previous poster was, to see if Im eating too much...or not enough. Anyway...you say you have the same routine...Ive heard it helps to change things up a bit. For example, a differant type of exercise than youve been doing, differant foods...maybe add a protein drink or bar. Good luck. Im right there with ya! Mary

I came here to post an identical post!!! I had surgery January 18th, and I'm only down aprx 55 to 60 pounds (depends on the day I weigh) I'm getting sooo frustrated, had told myself that I wouldn't become a scale junkie.. but I am now!! constantly on the scale to see if it moves at all...then a pound down a pound up two pounds down two pounds up!!!! RRRRR So frustrated, but I must admit I'm not excersing like I should but I'm active... I intend on uping my protein and fluid intake, but I had to know if I'm the only January surgery person who is at plateu!!!

Count me in as another one sitting on the stall fence. I have bopped around the same 2 pounds all week. I was steady losing until last Sunday. Since then I have been 232, then 234, then 232, then 234...I think the scale fairy is jacking me around. I have lost 72lbs so far...and yes, I know that is a fantastic amount, but, I had this secret little goal of reaching the 100 lbs gone mark by the time my hubby comes home from Iraq for his 2 weeks in the middle of June. I don't think I'm going to reach that goal now. So I guess we are all going to have to try to be patient and wait for this to pass...as hard as it may be. Hopefully next week we will all come back and post that it was a false alarm and that we are, in fact, still a bunch of losers! p.s.-please don't tell me to stop weighing myself daily....I wish I could ONLY weigh myself daily...I'm on that scale 10 times a day! haha Stacy

Help me too!! You have done great though! We had surgery the same day and I'm only down 58 pounds. I know it is hard for us to be patient. Most of us had such great losses at first that now 1 - 3 pounds seems slooooww. But it will happen. I'm trying to find a post about a plateau diet - maybe that can help us!

Same here.... Surgery on Jan 8th. Only lost 4 lbs the whole month of April. Total weight lost = 55. The consensus seems to be watch your protein intake, water, and exercise. There was also a posting on RNY on a plateau buster 'diet'. I hate that word. And I've been on that 'diet' how many times before my surgery. I was hoping never ever to do any fad diet again. Call it fat buster or plateau buster whatever. It feels very disappointing knowing the weight isn't coming off as easily as the first few months. I'm scared I'll be stuck a size 16 forever. Granted I'm grateful to not be a 24 anymore and weigh in at a hefty 249. Best of luck to all, Evelyn
