What's going on??
Ok, so I had a 24 hr. stomach bug on Monday. A lot of
all day long. I couldn't eat or drink anything for 24 hrs. Tuesday I felt better and was able to drink, but not eat much. Wednesday, I was able to eat and drink normally with no problems. Thursday, I wasn't able to eat much but could drink...I tried to eat dinner Thursday and just threw it away, eating made me sick. Today, (Friday), I felt fine this morning. Started out the day as usual, worked out for an hour (thanks Susan H. for the pep talk), ate a protein bar for lunch, everything was fine. I tried to eat dinner and again, it made me sick. I took 3 bites then was in pain for about 30 minutes until it finally came back up. That was at 5pm, it is now after 11pm and I still cannot eat or drink anything without it coming back up.
When I had the stomach bug Monday it was really bad. I was sore for two days from all the vomiting, or dry heaving rather because there was nothing in my stomach to come up. Is it possible I could have damaged my pouch/stoma in some way because of it? Or do y'all think it is still just sensitive after being so sick? Thankfully I was able to get in all my fluids and vitamins today before getting sick, but only half my protein. If I'm still having this problem Monday I will of course call my surgeon, just wanted to see if anyone had any idea what might be going on? Its not a good feeling. And I promise I'm not eating anything I'm not supposed to...if that were the problem I wouldn't be asking about it
Take care,
Denise

Hi Denise -
I'm with the fellow posters...... I would really go easy trying to eat solid food. My dr. said that when I get sick ( throw up) I should stay on liquids for at least 24 hrs. When you throw up you really irratate your pouch. Now - i usually stay on liquids for about 12 hours after I throw up and even then i still feel my pouch is not happy.
I guess if it keeps up - call you doc.
Hope you feel better soon -
Marta
Thank you all for your replies. I've stuck with liquids and soft foods all weekend and I'm feeling much, much better. I think I'll give Carrie (my surgeon's nurse) a call tomorrow anyway, just to make sure. I typically get the stomach flu once a year so I guess I'll know what to expect next time
Good news is I lost 4 lbs., but I do not recommend it as a way to lose weight!
Take care,
Denise
