Does anyone still take.........?
their stomach meds that you were prescribed on discharge? My doctor gave me a three month script for the prescription Prevacid. The prescription ends on Thursday. I called last week and asked if he was going to prescribe me some more or if I was supposed to be quitting. He said finish up and then I won't need anymore. I tried not taking it on Sunday and couldn't even eat refried beans!!! Just a few bites and I felt uncomfortably full.
TIA,
Sandy
I only took Pepcid for the first month after surgery to supress acid production, and frankly didn't feel like I needed it then. My initial thoughts were that it wasn't even for the pouch since it doesn't produce much acid as it is, but was used more to supress the acid production in the remnant stomach. Either way, that is all "proton pump inhibitors" are for. You said you felt uncomfortably full...was it painful or burning? Had you tried refried beans before? I feel like that everytime I try to eat them as they are such a "heavy" food. Unless you experience burning or pain, it is probably nothing to worry about...just your pouch telling you that it's had enough or that it didn't like what you were putting in there. I hope this helps you in some way...

Hey Sandy
I took was supposed to Prilosec 2x per day for the first month only....I forget a lot and it ended up being once a day for almost 2 months. I haven't taken them for about 2-3 weeks now and I'm doing fine. Maybe just cut back on it, take 1/2 a dose and wein yourself off of it instead of going off cold turkey.
Hugs
