Hi Janie - I think that tums have calcium carbonate i/o citrate - just double check. I was told it was ok to take calcium carbonate b/4 surgery, but after since they bypass that much of the intestine the absorption of carbonate is alot lower than the citrate. It seems that all DR's and NUT's are all different so I guess it is best to ask yours first and listen to them. I would love to take calcium carbonate - it seems that they come in alot more flavors and are in more chewable forms. I keep searching for a better calcium citrate than the creamy bites...... My NUT did say that to take the carbonate is better than not taking it at all.... but would prefer the citrate. Marta

My nut told me to take tums aslo but I am taking powder upcalD that I got from www.vitalady.com. I take one and a half scoops 2 times a day in a tablespoon of applesauce. Not bad tasting has a sweet taste. I take it in the afternoon and at night. I got it before the surgery and it is only half gone. Not sure of the price but well worth it. I figured the folks of vitalady new what they were doing as she had gastric bypass. Anna

Lindy, I will definitely have to keep this in mind for when I run out of the upcalD. Thanks for the info. Anna

Sounds great. I even have my husband taking the Gummy Sour Multivitamins with me along with the Gummy Calcium. He likes them as well and he did not have the surgery. He hated the way the flinstones chewables left a bad tast.
