I ususally get between 60-70 g of protein every day. I can't do protein drinks either, I can't get past the smell of them. My sense of smell has become extremely hightened since surgery, its like being pregnant again! So, I drink Calorie Countdown milk, fat free and 2% chocolate...both are low calorie, low carb and very good. I also drink one Slim Fast Low Carb shake every morning, 2 net carbs and 20g protein per shake. I also eat one protein bar, ranging from 12-17g protein each, once a day usually as a mid morning snack. I use the Atkins Advantage bars, no sugar alcohols in a lot of them and they're pretty tasty. The milk and slim fast shakes also count toward daily fluids so now I have no problem getting all my protein and fluids in. To those who are getting less than 60g a day, I implore you to please try! I know how hard it is, believe me I know, but I also knew I had to find a way to do it. Our bodies do not store protein so it must be replenished daily...prolonged protein deficiency can cause serious health problems. I'm not getting onto anybody or anything like that, please don't think I'm slamming anybody I know you're doing the best you can. But please, please, please try harder! I want to see everybody succeed! Hope this helps someone! Denise

Great Post Denise!! It did not sound like you blasting anyone..it sounds like you are concerned and pointing somethings that we all know but may have pushed by the way side. Thanks for the reminder about the importance of protein in our daily diets!! Keep up the good work!

Hi Crystal, Can't believe I just found this board lol... usually post on my State board :P Anyway, I'm trying for 90g a day... usually getting 60-70... my best recommendation is to go check out protein powders on bariatriceating.com. I tried the Vanilla Cinnamon one (26g of protein per scoop) mixed into brewed Chai tea. I buy Tazo or Stash Chai teabags, brew it up... while it is brewing, mix some cold water into the protein scoop (use a fork, works great****il it's smooth then when the Chai is cool enough, dump it into the protein water mix and stir... it's smooth, not creamy like a shake, not foamy... actually, it's just like drinking a Chai from Starbucks but not as sweet. I think my whole drink is between 16-20 oz of liquid if that helps for proportions. Two of those a day is 240 calories, but 52g of protein They also carry a new line of ice cream flavored powders, stuff you can mix into Lattes... etc... Before I found the website I was stranded in the land of Unjury creamy shakes and protein bars... I feel liberated :P I also have the test tube protein, and when I drink it, I dump it in Crystal Light *shrug* it's barely palatable, but it is protein. I'm having a much harder time witih protein from food, so I feel your pain. Michele

Hi Crystal, I am getting 60-70 only because I drink the protein shakes. I can't hardly stand the powdered ones but I buy premixed at Costco, whatever they have when I go in. They usually carry some great ones. They are not cheap but well worth it and my grocery bill is no higher now than presurgery for obvious reasons. Keep up the great work. 45 lbs..that's awesome! Crystal, I get 64 grams of protein consistly now but I remember when it was a problem. Here are some things that I like: 50 percent reduced fat corned beef hash by hormel- 21 grams per cup. I would eat 1/2 cup at lunch and the 1/2 cup at breakfast. I put a slice of cheese on each serving and that ups it by 3-6 grams per slice depending on what kind you buy. Nectar drink mix-24 grams per serving. They have tons of fruit flavors and even a cappachino flavor 1/2 cup cottage cheese has 13 grams I just had for lunch a Hormel Turkey & Heart vegetables lunch. It is 10 oz and had 200 calories and 15 grams of protein. It was really good. Yogurt has anywhere from 6-8 grams and some have suggested adding 1/4 to 1/2 scoop of protein to it. Good luck, Sandy
