My surgeon says that you can prolong your weight loss from WLS if you always take small bites, wait 10 minutes between bites, and don't drink with your food (not 30 min. before or after). It keeps your pouch small and working for you longer. It's worth a try...what do you think? Faith

Interesting.......... If I waited 10 minutes between bites and only took 5 bites, that would be 50 minutes!!!! I don't have that long to eat!!! I'm curious as to what others say though. I've never heard that!!!! Are you gonna try?

I agree w/ Janie - In theory that sounds great, but I don't have 50 minutes or more to eat - doesn't that turn into grazing??. I give myself 1/2 hr to eat - what ever i finish in that time is what I eat. Sometimes I eat everything and sometimes I don't. I also measure my food - no more than 1/2 - 3/4 cup of food at a time. I always wait 30 min. after I eat to drink and even 30 min b/4 I eat. It is interesting how many different ideas are out there about how to work w/ this surgery - they are all different yet they all seem to work - which is great. Let us know how it works out for you ... Marat

I agree with these guys. 10 minutes its a biiiiit much in my opinion. I usually take 2-3 bites and then slow down. Then I weight a minute or two in between bites. My nutritionist says a person should allow 30 minutes for lunch, in general. I think its funny how different doctors & nutritionists can be with their directions.

I agree with the small bites and not drinking with your food before or after but we're only suppose to eat for 20 minutes, so what your doc suggests wouldn't work for us. I think 10 minutes is way too long. Maybe he just wants you to try that so you'll pay attention to when your body says it's full.

My instructions were similiar to everyone else. I try to finish my meal in 20 minutes..so waiting 10 minutes between bites would only be two bites a meal!! I would not get any food in!! lol And I can drink up to 15 minutes before a meal (which I am not good at) and an hour after my meals...which I have been consistently doing since I got home from the hospital. The not drinking with your meals actually helps you stay full longer..not necessarily keep your pouch small...but if you drink right after you eat you will wash the food down and when your hunger returns...you will get hungry sooner. At least that is what my Nutritionist said. Keep us posted on how you do with this There was another person on this board that posted the same thing about waiting 10 minutes between bites and she got that from her Nut.

I have the same rules to follow as everyone else but I have to wait an hour before drinking after I eat. I think 10 min is a bit long. I hate eating cold food and as someone said before I would have to eat standing by the microwave It is just amazing the different rules we have to follow. Anna

True--it's not easy waiting that 10 min. I just get busy with something else. Then you wait 1---1 1/2 hours before eating anything else. The idea is to protect the pouch from stretching especially when it is new. We all do what we gotta do. It is interesting how many different plans the practices have. I wish you all great success!
