Misery Month!
For the last few days I haven't been able to eat much of anything. I could barely eat 2 tablespoons without feeling like I was gonna hurl, and since I am a little over 6 weeks out, I'm fairly sure it's the dreaded MISERY MONTH!!
It's definitely no fun, but I'm doubling up on the liquid protein since I'm not able to eat much. I hope this passes soon. Anyone else experienced this yet? Or at all?
I've noticed the past week or so that I'm struggling with wanting to eat less and some nausea...I blamed it on not getting enough drinking in (I get nauseated when I don't drink enough).....but maybe it's misery month.
Are you sure you may not be having some blockage or stricture troubles?? You might want to put in a call to your surgeon just in case.....

I have never heard of misery month...what is that? I will be six weeks post op tomorrow and since I started to my calcium pills, I get nauseted for very long lengths of time...I had one last night at about 8 pm and I just feel sick sick sick! I am going to switch the brand of calcium pills I take and hopefull that will help. Keep me posted on how you are feeling. I have still been able to eat ok, but I take the calcium pill after I eat and I am sick for hours one end and don't want to eat or drin****il the nausea goes away....I am going to lunch now and will try to eat something and see how that works out. Talk to you soon..
My clinic gave me a handbook, and there's a page that describes what it is. Apparently during 6-10 weeks, a large percentage of patients experience discomfort when eating during this time. The stomach contracts, and it causes nausea, etc. However, it's supposed to generally go away by the 10th week.
For me it's not been too bad, but I can only take about 2 bites and then I have to stop. Before, as long as I ate slowly, I could eat about 2-3 ounces without feeling bad. Oh well... I will grin and bear it, because I love losing this weight!
I have had a few boughts with this. But I am about 9 weeks out so I think I am coming out of it.
Seems like when I eat anything solid, it feels like it fills my whole pouch in one bite. Then of course, the lovely gas approaches and I feel like a long shoreman on leave Belching the alphabet. Sheesh.
I just tell myself, as I have many times since surgery, this too shall pass. Hang in there girl

Maybe that explains what I have been experiencing too. I can't hardly keep anything down anymore. I eat, feel fine, stop before the burping sets in. I don't even eat but about 1 oz, if I am lucky with food. Sometimes the misery hits pretty early and after just one bite. Other times I have gone about 10-15 minutes after I eat and it's coming back up all on it's own. I can't even try to keep it down.
My dr's office said that some people just can't handle solid food until they are three months out, especially fruits, vegetables and meats. Unfortunately I can't handle anything except for the soft foods/liquid soups and my protein shakes. I have been getting better at making my shakes. I now have two that I really like, because I can't taste the nasty powder aftertaste in most drinks or that I was tasting before when I made them.
I use the Isopure Zero Carb Vanilla powder to make my smoothies. Here are the recipes:
Strawberry Smoothie:
2 Scoops Isopure Zero Carb Vanilla Powers (45 grams of protein) from GNC (you can use just 1 scoop and it's just as good, just not as thick)
6 oz 1% milk (most say to use 0% percent, but I can't stand it)
4 frozen whole strawberries (can substitute 1/2 of banana instead)
2-3 pieces of ice (mostly just to make the drink colder)
2 packets of splenda for sweetness
Chocolate Milk Smoothie:
1 Scoop Isopure Zero Carb Vanilla Powers (45 grams of protein) from GNC
6 oz 1% milk
2 teaspoons of sugar free Chocolate Milk Syrup (only like 15 calories, zero carb, less than 3% sugar alcohol)
3-5 pieces of ice (mostly just to make the drink colder)
1 packet of splenda for sweetness
Enjoy!
