Staying on track...
I posted this on the RNY board too:
I am 7 weeks out from surgery and I have now been cleared to eat from all food groups...and since then I have found it harder to stay on track. I have tolerated EVERYTHING really well so there is nothing that bothers me, unless its too dry...so I've been eating more fruits & veggies and trying to find some really good WLS recipes to "broaden my horizons" in the right way. Its almost scary now that Im not restricted to just shakes, yogurt, and cottage cheese.
People who are further out than me, what are you eating? And what tools do you use to keep yourself making the right choices?
Im not saying that Im making BAD choices but Id much rather eat a piece of fruit today then a piece of chicken and I know thats NOT what Im supposed to be doing- I know, protein first, always.
Anyone else feel or ever felt this way?
Hi Angela -
I too seem to be able to tolerate anything that I eat. Although to be honest I have not tried that many fruits....I can eat salad and everything else - unless like you it is too dry and then it gets stuck. My dr. told me that protein always comes first - regardless - but that does not mean it has to be meat/chicken or fish.... you can put peanutbutter on apples and bananas or eat low fat cheese w/ the fruit. He said that as long as i had protein w/ whatever I ate it was better than not having protein at all. I have discovered that at my salad bar at work I can eat alot of different things they have. Today I had 2 oz. grilled salmon, 2 oz chick peas and 3 small mozzarella cheese - could eat only 1 of the cheese balls - i was too full. Sometimes I do hummus w/ crackers. As for recipes I usually eat what ever I make for the rest of the family - just alter it alittle
I agree that some times it gets tough w/ the protein - My breakfasts b/4 surgery were bagels or muffins...... now I'm at a loss....how many eggs, cottage cheese or oatmeal can one take...
I think your doing great - keep up the good work -
Marta
I have been on regular diet for a few weeks, but my pouch hurts with almost anything I try to eat. I do somewhat look forward to not being in so much pain that I can eat more stuff. I was doing well, but mostly I can only eat regular food at night. It's weird. I guess because I have to stretch my pouch out and by nightime it's okay with chicken. Tonight, I might have been lucky to get in about 1 ounce, plus a tablespoon of corn and a little bit of rice.
I am sure you are doing just fine. I agree with Angela, try putting some protien with your fruit and I bet that will be a good feeling and good for you.
Best of luck,
Lindy
