One month post op nut appointment yesterday....
Hi all,
I had my one month (actually 5 weeks) post op appointment with my nutritionist yesterday. I was very pleased to find out:
My weight loss is exactly on target to what the surgeon's goals for me are...I thought I was losing slow (especially because of the stall), so it was really nice to know I'm doing everything "right".
I can now eat fresh fruits and veggies!!!! Woohoo!!! I had a tomato slice with my dinner last night. Yummy.
I can actually eat almost anything now, as long as it agrees with my pouch. Exceptions are rice, pasta, bread, sugar (refined carbs), and possibly beef and pork for a while.
I can now eat 2 oz (4 oz yogurt or cottage cheese) at each meal, 1 of which must be protein. I still can't eat quite that much - I'm full at 1 to 1 1/2 oz...so we'll see.
I'm on target for my protein , fluids, and exercise.
Woohoo!! I guess it was just a good affirmation that I'm doing it all right, ya know?
That's great! I don't go back for follow up until 3/30/07 and surgery was on 1/24/07...my stall has lasted 17 days now (well I have lost 1.5 lbs in that 17 days and so very early since surgery date) I look forward to a positive from my surgeons office. I sure am trying and today will be day 3 of very intensive water aerobics (3 days in a row trying to break this darn plateau or stall) Mother nature is fighting me tooth and nail over these next pounds for some reason...BAD MOM..BAD, BAD!! I will win in the end. ;-p
My surgeon sends us home from the hospital eating only 1 oz of protein (3 oz yogurt, 2 oz cottage cheese). I've been pretty satisfied with that up until this last week...I started feeling like I could eat a little more, so the bump up to 2 is great. I think we go up to 3 oz at 4 months out and 4 oz at 6? I'm not sure, it may be more than that.

Hi,
I find it interesting that the surgeons all seem to have such different plans. The important thing is how we are feeling, I guess. I was on liquids in the hospital and 3 weeks after, but had no problem tolerating them. I too can only eat about 1 1/2 oz and I am satisfied. I'm in the pureed stage now for the next 3 weeks. That is so strange and radically different than before surgery! But--I am really loving the feeling of being in control of my eating!
Joy for the journey,
Faith
