I have so much pain in my stomach. I had RNY on the 29th. Did anyone have a lot of pain afterwards? I can't get up and move around and I can't sleep because I sleep on my stomach and of course that is out of the question. Any tips to get past these days and how long does it last. I can't even take sitting in a chair for long.

I 'm sorry you are in so much pain, that is not fun...... Is it gas pain? If so, nothing helps more than walking around and moving - I know this is hard if you are in so much pain. Gas -x strips work as well. If your in that much pain I would keep taking the pain meds like clock work. It should'nt last much longer - but if you really can't stand it I would call your DR....... Hope you feel better..... Marta

How do you know if it is gas pain. It is all along the incision area along as my stomach.

Gas pain is a feeling of LOTS of pressure inside your abdomen. (At least it is for me. Correct me if anyone else has any different experiences!) It sometimes feels like a rolling, rumbly tummy feeling. Like I'm a balloon about to burst. Luckily I think my gas pains are behind me now, but when I did have them it helped to sit up and walk around like Marta said. But yours sounds a little different. If you're having pain along your incision(s), I would recommend notifying your doctor. Ultimately, that is my best advice. Could it be infection? Or are your staples tearing your skin? *hugs* I wish I knew what to tell you. I would just call the doc and see what can be done to make you feel more comfortable.

Ditto what Marta said. I had some pain left over from my RNY which was not gas related and it took me a little while to work through it...just a few days though. I slept for 4 nights in a lazyboy because I am a side sleeper and that hurt. I actually have just started sleeping in bed and it does take me a little bit of time to find a comfortable spot. Take the pain meds they gave you when you left. They helped me a lot. For the gas pain the only thing for it is walking to get it out. You can ask your doctor if you can take some type of mild gas relief if it is too bad. I have been walking every day...a little at first but am up to a mile. It really does help. (((hugs))) Anna

My husband is going to the store to get some gas relief strips and I hope that works. Thanks for all of your kind words. I guess one thing that I never thought about was it would be so painful. Everyone is different and I kept reading posts about how great everyone felt so I just assumed I would too.

Keep taking your pain meds! The pain you are in impacts your ability to walk around and drink, both of which are essential for relieving the gas and overall healing. Get up and walk even if you don't feel like it. Force yourself to get up at least once an hour and walk around the house. I'll be praying for you, margaret

One thing I found that helped me not lay on my side, which is how I always sleep, is to lay flat on my back with a pillow under my knees and a heating pad across the area that is uncomfortable. I was amazed at how quickly I was falling asleep doing that. 10 days later, I can sleep on my sides now but I am enjoying the comfort of the heating pad and pillow under knees I'm continuing to do it for a while longer. Really, really good nights sleep. Gas pain is no fun at all. Mine "passed" literally, after about 4 days post op. Hope this helps you somehow. Darla

Let your doctor know about your pain. I had a lot of pain on my left side. It was caused by a big stitch they use to attach something to the belly. I was really worried about it so I called. I couldn't do pain killers so all I used was Tylonal and it hurt. But be in touch with your doctor he is the expert on pain and where it is. Jan
