Hi all: I am 2 yrs out and since the summer I am fighting skin breakdonw. Under my breasts and under the abdominal panel its red and itchy. At times it quiets down then it flares up. I have areas that are open but not oozy. My top eyelids are itchy too. My hands are also affected and splitting. The doctor gave me Ketoconazole cream 2%. But its not working. Has anyone else had this problem?? What did your doctor give you that worked. I am embarrassed to be intimate because it looks so horrible. If you know of something I should add to my diet which may help, please please let me know.

i haven't had surgery yet, but got the same problem. It could be yeast infection, it could just be a skin infection. Keep the area dry, very dry...get some cotton strips, put them there, ( well not eyelids and hands) there are some good creams out there, I use one that has lanolin in it..but I get it at the feedstore..similar like bag balm or utter cream...it's called corona ( like the beer) it helps me alot! Also are you eating alot of starchy carbs? that causes it to flare up.... Good luck Gina

You may already be aware of this but make sure your doctor has this rash problem in the chart notes. I have heard that many insurance companies cover tummy tucks and breast surgeries when they are causing bad rashes as you are describing here. Have you checked in to that one? Don't know if you have insurance but it's worth a shot and to think you may be able to put this issue aside after a little reconstruction. So many of us will be there too. I know I will be and I know it hurts. It flares on me every Summer...can we all say OUCH.......not looking forward to this Summer for that very reason. Hope this helps somehow.

Darla, do you know what the cause is, and how to prevent it? Is it due to lack of protien? thanks in advance, I am having surgery next week, and want to avoid this in the future if possible. Cissy

Hi Cissy, I really have no idea and actually had the problem myself prior to WLS so not sure it is related to being bariatric at all. I have a suggestion and I will email you personally. Thank you. Darla
