I'm a little scared. I dont know if I am starting to eat too much. This morning I ate about a Tablespoon of mashed potatoes. For lunch it was half of an applesauce premade cup. Dinner 2 Tablespoons mashed potatoes, and half of a sugar free pudding. Then I did get in my 3 protien drinks with my H2o. I dont know if this is too much too soon. Would I be sick if I were eating too much? This is all so new.

Hi Misty, I don't think you're eating too much. I guess I'm just confused as to why you're eating carbs rather than protein at this point. I know everyone's surgeon has different nutrition guidelines, but I thought "protein first" was kind of a standby policy. Just for comparison, my surgery date was 2 days after yours. I'm eating one ounce of chicken, fish, or eggs at each meal. Or I can have 3 oz yogurt, or 2 oz cottage cheese instead. I think one oz equates to about 2 tablespoons? So your amounts look right. Add to that 40g protein, either in drinks or protein powder added to my yogurt. Margaret

Hi - I would have to agree w/ the above poster. I don't think you are eating to much at all, just that it should be protein and not carbs. I was always told to do protein first and then vegtables and fruit - potatoes actually came after week 2. This way you start to get used to getting your protein as food instead of as a liquid supplement.

My surgery was January 16th and my doc gave me a list of foods to start with and mashed potatos and beans were at the top of the list. He said that the potatos would be a good starting point. not sure why but that is what he said. Keep up the good work and remember we are all going to be diferent.

Mashed potatoes were at the top of my nut's list too. I melt some low-fat cheese into my mashed potatoes for protein. My protein shake, just one a day, gives me my minimum amount of protein for the day. I don't eat just mashed potatoes. I do tuna mashed really well, chicken or ham salad is good too. Just make sure at this point you blend or shred your chicken and ham really well and chew it really well. I get a total of 2 tablespoons of food per meal, no snacks. That includes a protein, fruit or vegetable, and a starch. By the way, my surgery was on the 19th. Good luck to ya! Denise
