When will it end? Granted, it has gotten better since surgery on Tuesday, but I hate that my roommate at the hospital was only in "a little pain" the night after her surgery. I know everyone is different, but this is ridiculous! My back on the left side, opposite of the main lap incision is making it even worse. The meds help some but it is so hard to get comfortable!! I've been tired and sleepy the past couple days, but today I just feel weak, very weak and I know it's because I'm not eating but its just making it worse. It's hard for me to sit in a chair for very long. I just need some strength and support right now, cause honestly I'm starting to think "what have I done?"
Jennie,
I am sorry your not feeling well. As I personally have not had my surgery yet I can't speak from experience, but having several friends who have had WLS, I have heard that the first week is the worst. Take your pain meds. They give them to you for a reason, and (I may need you to tell me this in a couple of weeks)...but remember that the pain is temporary. I'm not sure if you have children, but if you've labored with children or not, you know that at the end of all that pain there is a beautiful prize. It's the same with WLS, it will hurt for a bit, but you are enduring this for the prize that lies ahead....better health, a better quality of life, and a better you.

Very well said Lori!! Jennie, I too am sorry you are still experiencing so much pain. I hope I will be like your roommate at the hospital and experience just a little pain. I have to realize though that with Fibromyalsia my pain will be higher. I don't know if you have have it or have heard about it but Fibro is where your everyday aches and pains are magnified due to the pain volume in your brain is turned way high. Like Lori said....I am going to keep my eye on the prize I will get. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers that this will pass for you soon. A lot of people feel the same way right after surgery but it does pass and oh baby when you get weighed that first time....wow. It has take me 5 months to lose 20lbs and people are doing it in one month with WLS. That just seems not quite real to me...I can't wait till it happens to me. I will be going in on Wednesday. Big hugs coming your way!!!
(((hugs)))

Keep up with your pain meds. Don't ever get behind on taking them, even during the night. I find if I don't take mine often enough I'm less likely to drink enough, let alone eat anything at all. And far less likely to feel up to walking at all. Take the pain meds religiously for the next few days. Worry about weaning off of them next week. Drink drink drin**** chips are great for keeping the fluids constantly going down.
Jennie-
I'm so sorry you're in so much pain. I had an open RNY and let me tell you the first week and a half were nothing but complete hell! I said many times..I was stupid what was I thinking. The only thing I can really suggested is walk walk walk! I know it hurts but it does make the pain lessen some to make it more tolerable. I took my pain meds too round the clock..It's like I woke up 1/2 hr earlier than I could take my medicine well..I took it anyway. Try not to stress on getting in all your proteins and liquids right now..it's damn near impossible. You'll get there. I'm still working on it. Some of us take alittle longer. Hope this helps. I promise you..it's not forever. You will start to feel better soon. By the way. NOOOOO position for me was comfortable. I tried to lay down..with and without pillows. I tried sitting up..NOTHING HELPED. I was in tears because I was exhausted and soo tired..but couldn't sleep because it hurt and nothing was comfortable. I'm sorry..give it a couple more days and things will get better

Well, I did call the doc and from what I was describing, it turns out my blood sugar was way low, that's why I was soooo weak and feeling like I was ready to pass out sometimes. He suggested regular juice with sugar (apple, cranberry or grape) and diluting it with 3 parts water. After I stopped worrying about dumping and sipped it for about an hour, it did make the shakes go away and helped me to feel better. I'm still pretty wiped out, but it seems like I've finally turned the corner and feeling better each day. So, getting better, not great yet, but at least I see the light! Thanks for all your help and support!!!
I felt exactly what you are feeling just a couple of days ago. I could not understand why am I in so much pain yet other people are posting about how great they feel. I must say that 2 days in terms of pain does make a difference and now I am only taking regular tylenol and the pain is bearable. As for feeling weak. As soon as they took the IV off, I thought I was going to die. I was totally empty, devoid of any nutients or calories. Even if I could eat and drink, which I was having a lot of trouble doing, there was not way that I could eat enough to take the weakness away and feel better.
Now I am only 7 days out and I am surprised at how much I can eat or drink at one sitting without vommiting. What a difference 2 days can make. So hang in there. It WILL get better. Just 2 days ago I was beating myself up for making the biggest mistake of my life but it will get better everyday.
Take care,
HUGS,
Sharon
Hang in there.
I had my surgery on the 5th and had a rough week but made it.
I had the back pain and breathing problems.
Take your medicine and try sitting up or in a lazy boy.
I did not eat much for about a week, but in 3-4 weeks I am down quite a few pounds and am glad I did it. The first week I was wondering what I did.
When you do start eating... Slow and small bites.
Blessings
