Ok I had my surgery last Tuesday and I came home on Friday. I am still in tremendous pain and I am wondering if it is ever going to end. I have the worst gas pains after I eat and getting around is still a challenge. I have a JP drain in and jeep thinking maybe once that comes out on Wednesday then I will feel better. Am I the only one in pain? Everyone else seems to be pain free and moving one.

Hi Vanessa I'm glad to see you home and well. I'm quite sure that pain will leave real soon and you will be feeling much better!! I have heard about the gas pain and I feel your pain. A really close friend of mine told me when I have my surgery to walk, walk, walk because it helps to move the gas right along. I'm sure this is easier said than done but it's worth a try. Take care of yourself. Pearl

Hi Vanessa - Glad to hear that you are home. I'm sorry to hear about all the pain. I'm assuming you had open? only because you mentioned a drain, I had lap and didn't have any drains. It seems that open is alot harder on the body. Keep taking the pain meds, if your comfortable they say you can heal faster?? I had lap, but I do have alot of gas as well, esp. when I eat..... i burp like crazy.... I seem to get alot of air trapped, even when I talk I seem to suck in alot of air. Anyway, i found that gas x strips seem to work really well for the gas and alot of walking. Take it easy remember it's only 1 week since surgery. I think your doing great - keep it up Marta

The gas PAIN you're feeling right now is from the Co2 gas they fill us with to make the surgery and seeing whats inside, easier. It took about 5 days for it to pass for me. Now.. I still have regular gas, which the walking and gas-x strips help ease, but the painful gas you're feeling right now just has to come out on its own. I know it hurts, but it wont last long! Once its all out, and the drain is removed, you'll really feel a difference and be able to get around better. Seriously.. everything can change for the better within hours! I went from thinking I was dying in the ER on Tuesday night, to feeling as though I could jump run and kick on Wednesday morning! Hang in there hun! ~Anissa

Vanessa, Don't give up. I too was consumed with how much pain I was in, but it does get better day by day. I am 12 days post op, and I can now move in the bed all by myself! Yippee, that is a great accomplishment. Where are you having pain at? I will be praying for a speeding recovery for you, take it one day at a time, and remember to walk a little more each day, and get plently of fluids. If you get dehydrated it will prolong your recovery. Kim

I had my surgery on Monday. My jp was removed on Thursday night, and I was discharged on Friday morning. I'm not really using any of the pain pills they gave me. I had open verison of the RNY. My scar is about 3.5 - 4 inches long. I'm really not in pain. I get the bloating if I drink too quick , which I'm hoping will go away soon. Or I get the idea and stop trying to drink so quick, haha. The chewable gas-x is helping a lot for me with that. I am only sore for a few momements from getting up from like a low couch, or sitting to laying down, vice versa movement. I would call the doctor if you're in too much pain. I know when I was discharged on my paper said if you have pain, call the doctor. I will pray for a speedy recovery for you, too
