New to the Boards
Hello all,
This is my first post. This journey has seemed so unreal until now. I finally have a surgery date- - January 31, 2007 so it is real now. I am excited and nervous. I have gained a ton of information from this site. I have so many things going through my head. My boss is understanding but is hoping I come back to work before 6 weeks are up. How much time off from work is everybody taking? Looking forward to interacting with everyone.

Hi Mary,
I'm an "Old" Newbie. I had Open RNY 5/31/00. Successfull until 2 months after my tummy tuck 4/2004. Went for an upper GI 5/2004 & they found that my staple-line had disrupted. Went & saw a surgeon & since I was 138 at 5'5", he said I didn't need surgery, but probably would at some time. Well.......last March (06) I had an endoscopy & my staple-line disruption was 2 cm instead of 1 cm. I started to gain weight like crazy. 6 lbs one week, 7 the next & so on until I regained 37 lbs. I'm scheduled for revision with stomach transection in 3 days. 1/16/07. Hope I didn't scare you It's all good. I lost 114 lbs & kept it off for most of the 6.5 years since my origional surgery. Check out my profile for my complete story & lot's of pictures. I'm going back to work 1/29, but none of the plumbing is being touched. Good luck & welcome.

I just wanted to welcome you to the boards, we have a great bunch here! I am having my lap-rny on the 17th and I am extremely excited and a bit nervous too. How are you feeling as the date gets closer? I do not work but I am a college student and the nurse from the hospital and also the behavior specialist from my program reccomended that I take the entire semester off for both rest and recovery, but also to get used to my new lifestyle. I decided to just take one online class but Im very nervous about going stir crazy! I heard that most people by week 3 or 4 just want something to do with themselves! I will be praying for you to have a speedy recovery and to go back to work sooner than 6 weeks (if you want to! Im sure you'll enjoy the vacation!)...Keep in touch with us all and make sure you let us know how things go!

Hiyas Mary! Are you doing it Lap or open? Is it band or RNY? For lap band I don't know sorry. For Lap RNY my doce says if you have a desk job 2 weeks if you have a job where you are physically I would say 4-5. If you have open definitely 5 weeks. Six weeks should be plenty. I am having Lap RNY and I am taking 3 1/2 weeks off and then going back for 4 hours each day for 1 1/2 weeks. Just in case I get tired easily. Hope this helps. Send me your information and I will get you added to the list. Congrats on your date and welcome to the Jan 07 board!!! I will need

Congratulations Mary! You and I will be having our surgeries the same day. I am having a lap RNY and plan to return to work within a week. I have a desk job and have the option to go lay down if I don't feel well. I have two friends who both had the same procedure. One who had an open RNY and returned to work within 2 weeks and another with a lap RNY who says after the second week I'd be going nuts. Each person is different of course , and I have heard different view points on the Texas message board, but my Dr. suggests with lap RNY 2 weeks. I pray all goes well for you!
