Hi all !! I am new, posted acouple of times to ask questions in the last week or so.. I just wanted to say HI! am over 120 lbs over weight and rella ywant this surgery done... I just got insurance through MVP here in Upstate NY and am planning to see my primary regarding a referall to albany med baritrics.. I am nervous, I want this done and even though my primary said a year ago he would refer me I am very afraid I'll get rejected (I'm pessimistic). I can't walk for long lengths without getting tired and have high cholestrol, and my BMI IS 44. Is that enough to get approved or di i have to have ton of other things wrong with me?? I weigh over 245lbs and really am tired of living in this body and I'm only 41! need advice thanks... rae

Hiyas Rae, welcome to the Jan 07 board. It all depends on what your insurance requires. I would call your insurance and ask them if Weight Loss surgery is covered and if so what the criteria are. That way if they require you to be on a supervised diet for a length of time you can get that started right away. Just a word of warning. Even if you are approved right away it may still take months before you actually have the surgery. I had my consult Oct 24 and just got my date Dec 29. Sometimes it goes really fast but sometime not. Just wanted to let you know so you didn't get discouraged. I was approve Oct 25. Best of luck to you, please keep us updated. Anna

You'll never know what the results will be unless you try. I did all of the things I needed the first time and was denied. I ended up getting a new job with new insurance and went through it all over again and was approved. Try Try and Try again. I wish you luck!
