Ok, now I'm a little or alot confused...I was not advised anything about a liquid diet 2 weeks before surgery? My date is 1-24-07. I have to go for pre-testing on 1-11-07 and the only thing I heard of a liquid diet is the 2 days before surgery to do the fleet prep kit. Please help me understand my misunderstanding.

Dee, each doctor is different in how they want to do it. Most likely if you have already been dieting to lose weight required to have the surgery you don't need to go on a liquid diet. Or if you are what they call a light weight or having it done open then they may not require it. It is always up to your surgeon. If your surgeon has not required it then I would not worry about it. I myself have been dieting to lose the 10lbs he required of me. I lost 15 but keep flucuating back and forth between 250 and 254. I have to be at 255 or below or they won't do the surgery. I am not about to take a chance of that and because I am having a hard time saying no to certain foods as I get closer to surgery I am putting myself on a liquid/protein drink diet. I will start this Monday. I want to get below 250 so I don't stress. I also want to make sure my liver is shrunk down some so he can do my surgery Lap. While I have been dieting I have not been that strict about it and now I need to get it in gear. Back to basic I here the losers say when they reach a plateau. So that is what I am going to do. I was going to the gym but there is a lot of nasty sick stuff out there and I don't want to take that chance. I just walk extra at work. Sigh sorry this was so long. I hope this helps. Anna

My doctor put me on a 1250 calorie diet since I am a male. This is three liquid protein shakes or 75grams of protein per day and one structured meal to total the 1250 calories. My surgery is Jan 15th. So what was stated earlier, everyones doctor does it alittle different. Hugh

Dee, It truly is amazing how different the drs are on the pre/post op diets! Some don't care about any of it and allow you to eat a big meal the night before...so (like mine) had me do a clear, sugar free, caffeine free diet for 10 days before (to shrink the liver). Just go with what you know and what your dr says and don't sweat it! Congrats on your date btw!! Tina

I was told that I had to do this 1 week before surgery. My surgery is scheduled for the 22nd. God bless and Praying works.
