Pre Op Diets

Hi all, I'm wondering about your pre op diets, I am on mine and in the last month I've lost 22 lbs. I see some of you saying liquid diet. My Dr. doesn't require a liquid diet, just basically low carb & high protein, plus protein supplements between meals. What is everyone eating on their pre op diet? I've been doing SF Carnation Instant Breakfast with 1/2 a scoop of protein powder in the morning, for lunch today I had some beef fajita strips & stir fry veggies, SF pudding for a snack, had some Nectar Tealicious for my supplement, then for supper I had a salad with chicken breast strips, feta cheese, sunflower seeds, etc... and a light yogurt. Then Isopure for my 3rd protein supplement. I've also been eating a lot of eggs & cheese sticks. (I mean not a whole lot, like 1 cheese stick a day and maybe 4 eggs at the most).

My surgery is 1/22/07 and starting 1/10 I'll be on clear liquids plus protein. I can have broth, SF jello, SF popsicles and protein powder mixed with things like Crystal Lite. I'm really dreading it. The surgeon's nurse did tell me, though, that they kind of expect people to cheat and if I cheat I should do it on protein only and really lay off the carbs. I'm going to try as hard as I can, but I'm not looking forward to it. Jen

My surgery is on 1/17 and dr. gave me no pre-op diet - just nothing to eat or drink after midnight the night before surgery. Regardless, I've decided to follow a low carb, high protein diet for the next week and then switch to liquids with protein added for the last few days before surgery. I just can't imagine, and don't want, anything in my system at surgery time. Congrats on your 22 lbs lost! You're on your way already!!! Margaret
