Steph,
Good luck with the job process.  As times get worse, corrections will need the help!  I have watched the show "Locked up" on MSNBC on our cable.  The prisons in Alaska are located in beautiful settings.  The show said the prisoners in Alaska seem to be a calmer bunch due to the surroundings.  I will hope that is true for you!
I have spent a few weekends partying in Grand Island in my youth.  Remember it as a good time.  Spent a few years north in Yankton, SD.  Lots of fun had there and in NE right over the boarder.

Topic: Hello to everyone
I never post on the board, but I do read since my surgery in January 2006.  I stay within 5 pounds of my initial loss, but I always wanted to lose 5 more pounds.  I don't eat a lot, but I eat about 5 times a day.

Pre Surgery: 252
Post surgery one year: 140
Current weight: 143

Any tricks or tips?  I would love to have lost down to 135!

Ok, to carry on with what Teresa posted, I decided to write a little about my mundane life as well.

I have been working as a telemetry monitor tech....I watch sick hearts on computer screens....anyhow, work is sometimes slow and corporate decided to cut back hours, so I decided to take the bull by the horns and applied for a correctional officer position back home in Alaska. I am hoping that I get through the interview process and get to go back up for all the testing, that in itself would be a huge accomplishment for me. My sister is totally pulling for me since she is already a corrections officer up there. I am hoping that I hear something soon for my phone interview. I guess we will see what happens. I figured if I did nothing I would never know right? And as I see it, the economy is not good for anyone, and it is only getting worse, so making almost 20 an hour is a good thing since they need so many for that line of work. Staying here I am afraid that we will eventually lose everything and that is not something that I want to happen. So I took the initiative to look elsewhere, even moving is ok with me as long as I know my babies are first and foremost taken care of! So this is a snipit into my mundane life and I hope this message finds you all well!! Take care everyone.
 Hugs,
 Steph

Topic: My life

Hello Friends!

I guess I don't post much as my life is rather routine.  Up, off to work, give the man(LOL)8 hours and home to where I really live and love to be.  I forget that those are the bits of info that bring us together.  So here goes a bit of mundane chatter from me.
I am a public health nurse.  This is a busy time of the year as we give flu shots.  Yes, I do believe in them, have had one every year for longer than I can remember and have not suffered with the flu.
I did outlying clinics in our area today.  I drove a total of 85 miles to give 16 flu shots!!!  Lots of driving and lots of time for so few shots.  It is important to make sure the opportunity exists for the smaller communities to access preventative medicine.
(Just to give you an idea of how far apart everything is here:  The area I live in has about 30,000 people in two towns, 12 miles apart.  The next town to the west with a population over 25 is 100 miles, to the east 120 miles.  Nothing but open spaces and oil and gas development.  Oh, and sage brush!)

SO, I recommend everyone that is able, get a flu shot this year!

I do agree with you... more and more from us are living their virtual life here to start a new life at home. That is positive and understandable. My hope is that the leaving or the lack of participation of a lot of us is because their life outhere is so nice and positive that the board is secondary. It uses to be a time two years ago in which this board became so important due to the support needed to confront the changes in my body, mind and soul. I know that the changes has gone from trully positive (as myself), to almost no changes, to disaster...

In anyway our lives need more and more attention. To be honest my participation here has gone from many hours a day to few minutes a week.

Best Regards

Alex

Hola Teresa!!!

Well the problem is not checking back... the problem is that the level of participation has gone down... it has been more evident since Kay stopped posting her contribution...

I love to participate and be part of the lives of the people who are allowing us to enter in their lifes throgh this board. But there are less and less people sharing with us...

Love you a lot

Alex

Hi Steph!!!

Well I hope it's not dead yet, it depends on us... if we want it alive we have to participate...

I hope next time you come to Mexico we will be able to meet.

Alex
