Reactive Hypoglycemia

Hi all!  Hope everyone is doing well.  Just a quick post on what I have been going through...  Here goes....During my pregnancy I had Reactive Hypoglycemia.  Any type of carbs I ate no matter how minimal made my blood sugar go sky high and then take a plung into Hypoglycemia.  After I had my baby boy it lingered for about 2 months.  The problem went away but it is back with a vengance.  I am struggling badly.  I have an appointment with my surgeon on 2/3/09.  My PCP thinks that my pancreas is overproducing insulin therefore causing me to crash.  I  have been trying to read up on how to handle this and am reading everywhere that this is a fairly new complication that is arising from the Gastric Bypass procedure.  I have horrible nightmares due to the crashing blood sugar at night during my sleep.  I wake up with really bad headaches.  I eat all day long because my blood sugar drops bigtime.  The moment I eat within a half hour I am starving and shaky again.  I need a fix for my problem.... It is driving me crazy.  I am hoping a fix can be suggested from my surgeon.  I still have 100 lbs. to lose.  I have also been reading up on a Revision.  We will see what happens.  I will keep everyone posted.

Thanks for listening

Ive had this problem since I was 6 months post-op. My doc told me it was because my body was still producing the amount of insulin I needed at 320 pounds. I still suffer from low blood sugar when I have carbs. If I stick with only protein, I have no problem. And when I say low, I mean 20-30 low!

As for revision, Ive been reading alot about that lately and did you know they are now banding RNYers who didnt lose all the weight or had a regain? I think that is very interesting!

good luck,
kristi

I am going to try to stick with protein and see how it goes.  I did hear about the banding RNYers. It is called a Stomaphyx.  I will see if my surgeon will suggest it.  I still have 100+ to lose!!!

Thanks!

The stomaphyx does not prevent subsequent stretching of the Stoma.  If you stretched it once ... well, you know ... it will stretch again.

I am not fussing at you LOL 0 I am sure my stoma is ssstttrreeettccchhheeeddd out.

God Bless! Jen

There you are!  This morning I came to the conclusion that I am just going to "Snap out of it"  I need to be accountable for all I do.  In any case I am not going to go there with another surgery.  Congratulations on your baby girl. She is gorgeous!  Can you believe my little one will be 6 months soon.  It seems like just yersterday I was whinning to you about my pregnancy.    Congratulations again.

I have this problem as well. I passed out while driving about a year ago. I have it under control for the most part now. For me, I have to eat very specific, even amounts of food throughout the day and include carbs (mostly only from veggies). When I was doing just protien, it did not work for me. I met with the nutritionist at my surgeons office as well as the PA there to help me through it. My PCP was NO help!

I also have this problem and my Dr said the same thing as yours way to much insullin being produced, if I munch on crackers 12 hours a day I am fine if I try not to eat the crackers and just protien like the nut said I get shakey and I do get in the high thirties...scary

Let us know what you find out.

Wow, scary stuff.  I have gone as low as 39.  I am going to find a balance though (I hope).  When I was pregnant it was a different game.  I had to eat literally every hour cause I could not keep up with the nutritional needs of my baby.  Now it is another situation.  I will keep you guys posted.

Thanks!

Norma

By the way my pcp was no help either......
