Pretty Scary!
Hey Everyone!
Okay, so...I saw my friend last weekend. The friend who had the surgery almost a year before I did (I would never have had it if I did not see her success first). I had not seen her for quite some time. And all I can say is....
HOLY SH*T. I am going to guess that she gained almost HALF her weight back. I am pretty much freaking out. Well, you would THINK I would be eating better as a result, right? Not so much...
It is terrifying that it can happen. We CAN gain all our weight back! AAAAAH!!! I cannot get control of my eating and now I am petrified. I swear...I have a switch inside of me...the "food" switch. On rare occassions, the switch goes on and I eat perfectly! 3-oz. portions of lean chicken/fish...NO carb snacks whatsoever...I drink water...the works. I do it for about 2 weeks before the switch goes off and I go on a cookie bender. I have been eating cookies DAILY. As a result, I am 170 again. 8 lbs from my lowest, 10 lbs. from goal. I NEVER made goal. GEESH!!!
I need to find some kind of happy medium! That is my short-term goal. Seeing my friend was an eye-opening, frightening experience.
But...enough about that....how are you all doing?!!? Lurkers (like me) join in!!
Love and hugs,
JM

Nope, you look like a mega cutie and mega young!!
About your eating.. You are so not alone! I gained more than that but I think now I've got it under control. I don't know for how long but it's been 3 weeks and I'm still focused. I eat more carbs now but it's veggies and focus more on calories and stop stressing so much about carbs. When I do strictly NO carbs and mostly protein, the weight does fall off quick but it doesn't stay off!
Seeing your friend opened your eyes, putting on my size 12 jeans and they being tight opened mine.
Do whatever you gotta do to get back on track. Join WW for the meetings, talk to a dietician, to WLS support groups, talk to us.. whatever!
Good luck with whatever path u choose to get things under control. Just know you are NOT the only one!

Thanks so much, Kay!!
Yeah...I definitely need to get it under control! I was thinking of joining WW but it is so expensive! Maybe I will just have my husband weigh me every week...that should be motivating (and also horrifying!)! ;-)
Hey...I am with you on the jeans girl! I have always been a solid 10 Long. I tried on a pair of Old Navy The Flirt jeans in a size 10 Long and I had to suck it in PAINFULLY to get them buttoned...there was NO way I could wear them. Another eye-opener. It SUCKS!!
You are right...the protein-only deal does make the weight come off fast...but it is not sustainable. I think I get SO rigid that, when I go off it, I REALLY go off it!! I WILL find a balance somehow!
Posting here always helps me...I am gunna try to make it a habit!
Have a GREAT day and thanks for the luck wishes...I need 'em!!
Love and hugs,
JM

Whoa.....the site changed formats on us!!
I have been eating everything in sight today, for some reason I could not make myself feel full. I am not a carb person but if I skip a protein shake I not only want to eat more but can consume more - a double whammie.
Last week we were talking about protein shakes making one gain but I find that it is just the opposite for me.
Fortunately I dont have any inclination for bad carbs or sugar - but I can sure put a thick schmear of LF cream cheese on my turkey rollup! The carbs I eat are beans and veggies, occassionally some fruit. I also have been going out a lot in the past months and drinking wine which I I have dramatically cut back on so that is helping.
My pants are OK but my shirts are tight.
Thanks for sharing this reminder that WLS is not a total solution and weight management is something we will need to always monitor.
Hugs,
~Tiff

Hi JM!!!
You look MEGA beautiful!!!
I deeply believe that the secret to keep on track is discipline... as lonng as you haven't made a change in the eating habits you will come back to the same patterns of behavior... I have told this several times, but it has worked for me... I always anilize my feelings in front of a plate. If I feel guilty or stressed I reject the dish and change my order... I know that at the beginning it's not easy to say no to cookies or fryes... but after few times you will get used to ask for healthy food for you... and will not feel guilty to eat something you love from time to time...

No Robin you defiantly do not look dorky! Just adorable!
As far as your friend gaining weight, I feel it too. I never made goal and feel like a failure! I am extremely depressed and stressing over it! I went to old navy yesterday and bought some jeans because I need them for school starting! I ended with 2 pairs of size 12 and 1 pair of 10's. I was a size 4 at my lowest. I guess the 10's are going to become my new favorite jeans. I have been going to the gym regularly but can not seem to get my eating under control! Are you still considering a trip to the falls?
Hugs, Chris

Aww you look so cute! But I wear piggy tails too, so......... haha! Don't know what to tell you on the eating part, cuz I'm right there too. You make it a lot longer eating 'right' than I do though. I actually just spent approx. the last 3 weeks on what should be the 'correct' amount of calories for me, etc. I used a formula to figure out my base metabolism, the amt of calories to maintain my weight and the amount to lose the weight. The calorie counts were pretty high I thought but gave it a shot (because it said this will stop my body from holding onto any calories), Needless to say it didn't work. But also, the calories were not as much protein as they recommended. Anyway, I'm back to a super strict calorie count again and we'll see how it goes. I just started school today too so I'm not sure if that's going to help or make it worse! Normally worse because of stress, but maybe better this time cuz I'm not home as often to keep stuffing my face!
Hugs!

I was getting out of contol last summer and joined Weigh****chers. I go just to get weighed in twice a month- to be held accountable. I spoke to my doctor about not having control over my eating in February and he prescribed me ADIPEX. I don't believe insurance covers it- it costs around $50 and has really helped me. When I don't take it for a few days I get out of control again. I try to stay active to not put the weight on but it is a daily struggle. I did so well for about a year and then have gone down hill.
