How do you tell if the doctor hit the port?

With fill one and two, the doctor inserted a long needle with a long narrow tube that squirted liquid if I moved around. He said this was to make sure he was in the port. both times he had a really hard time finding the port and had to work the needle around and remove and reinsert the needle several times to find the port. Although he had all that trouble, he said the port was "okay" and this was "normal". Anyway, as soon as he started pushing the "fill" in, I could feel the band tightening and for several days after the fill, I had a difficult time as everything I ate felt like it might get stuck. Not so today. I just had my third fill in a little over 12 months. He did not use the tube to make sure he hit the port, instead he inserted the needle and pushed the fill directly into what I am sure he believed was the port. I said, "I didn't feel anything." Dr. Wheeler said, "That's good. That's what we want." Well, it wasn't until I was half way home (a two hour round trip) before I realized that he could have misconstrued the comment. He might have taken me to mean I didn't feel the needle being inserted. However, once I got home, I decided to check and see if the restriction had changed any at all. Unfortunately, although the nurse insist he pushed 2 cm, I have no increase in restriction and I can eat everything I could before. I know its been about 9 months since my last fill, but I still had a little restriction. As this has not changed at all, I am concerned that he might not have hit the port. Question is, do you always feel the fill entering and enlarging the band when you have some restriction left? As I have only had two fills prior, I don't know and was wondering if I could get some input on the matter. Thanks for any help I can get as I am rescheduled to see the doctor again on Monday, but I'm not sure how he is going to take the matter as doctors, in my experience, hate to admit when they are wrong.

Hey Dalton!!! To be honest I am not sure how many of us has the band done... but I would advice you to visit the forum that OH has specializing in band surgeries and ask the same question... I hope that in that forum they can answer your question in a more accurate way... Best Regards Alejandro from Guadalajara Mexico

Most of us are RNY not Bandsters. You may want to ask your question on the Lapband forum.
