I have taken some sips of soda since surgery. I don't believe everything that comes out about what can happen after this surgery. Hugs, Anna

Hey Tori: I am probably the worst person to ask this question of because my Diet Soda (from fountains) is something I never gave up. I drink it all the time. I do not think it makes me hungrier when I drink it and I do not think that it is the reason for my slower weight loss. And, quite frankly, I love it! My surgeon, incidentally, does NOT allow us to drink it, but...uh...I do! I understand I did not offer any help here...just wanted to confess my sins! Hugs, Jersey

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR INPUT !!!!!! I was Just curious since I just started back at the diet soda a little, and then I read that article from Bariatric insights yesterday and it freaked me out. I hear others talking about diet soda so I figured it can't be that bad, just don't want to take any chances of messing things up.... HAVE A GREAT DAY TORI

Just my two cents and hopefully I do not offend anyone.! I do NOT drink soda and have not since 6 months before surgery...A couple of reasons why...First my doctor does not approve of it....and when I stopped I was able to relplace it with water and lost my pre surgery weight that was needed..... 2nd of all my daughter was in a parade and jumped on a flat bed truck that was covered in grease....I googled what would take the grease out of her $80 jeans I had bought just one week prior (I only paid $12 for them cause I am a good shopper ) anyway coke/diet coke came up and it said to pour a 2 liter bottle on the grease and let it soak, guess what it came up....All of it, so if it can eat through grease what does it do to your tummy? Just my thought....I have only missed it once and that was when someone opened it near me and I heard the nice popping sound that comes from it.... I do not judge anyone from eating/drinking things because I am not perfect and if it works for you then great...I do eat candy sometimes and sometimes it is more than I should... Hugs Chris

My surgeon says it does not scretch the pouch and does allow it. I don't drink as much as I did pre op but I do drink about 3 or 4 cans a week. I know everyone has a different opinion about this but I love diet root beer and I'm not giving it up Kay

I have started drinking soda, but I drink diet and caffeine free soda. I add ice AND wait till it gets a little flat. When it's strong, it feels weird in my tummy...not hurting, just wierd. My doctor doesn't "allow" it, but some other doctors do, so it's kinda like....well who's right??!! Also, I've learned that docs do things sometimes that aren't proven in new studies, so they stick to old stuff. Not that it hurts a patient, but it doesn't make a difference either way. That's just the way of medicine. Also, I don't know what other people learned from their doctors, but I had to take all these classes...that I had to pass before getting surgery! And they educated us pretty well (i think anyway). But any kind of literature I've read about WLS always focused on the fact that we won't be losing weight forever. It's even a possibly that some may not get to OUR personal goals. It's not anything that we're doing wrong, but our bodies are basically saying "enough is enough!" Either we won't lose anymore or lose realllllyyyy slow...every body is different with every surgery. In addition, I VERY RARELY drink caffeinated drinks because of the dehydration it can cause. I'm sure I can have a cup or 2 but I just always stay away from it. Caffeine I stay away from....sweets and fried stuff I don't give a second thought! I eat it on up! Just my own 2 cents.... April

My surgeon never said anything about diet soda. I do drink a diet ginger-ale occassionally. (helps nausea) Enjoy it, everything in moderation.
