1 year check-up & PS consult
Last Tuesday I went for my 1 year post op check up and they said I was doing great. Haven't gotten my labs back yet. Hopefully they are okay. I only got to see my surgeon coming into the bldg. I saw one of his surgical fellows in the office and he said Dr. Scarborough would come say hi, but then the dr. got tied up w/ someone else and I had to leave to get back to work and didn't want to wait. I see him at my support group, so that was fine. He had recognized me in the hall and had turned around and come back to see me, so I was okay w/ that.
Now, on the PS consult I had today:
This morning I had a consult w/ Dr. LoMonaco. Unfortunately when I was an hour into my drive and near downtown Houston, I got a call from his office that he had an emergency and couldn't make it. They said they would take pictures and could tell me most of the things he would. His office staff is really nice. They make you feel so comfortable, especially during the wonderful photographic session you get to have. Nothing like it all hanging out there in the wide open!
I already knew that he was the surgeon for me if I had it done in Houston. I don't have the guts to go out of the country for a lower body lift. I'd rather be poor and alive and close to the surgeon. Dr. LoMonaco talked at our Hermann support group last summer and I liked his personality. Another surgeon spoke a few months ago, and while I'm sure he is a skilled plastic surgeon, I didn't jive w/ his dry personality, nor his voice. It would have driven me crazy.
We discussed procedures, prices, and financing. I am going to start w/ a lower body lift w/ butt auto-augmentation. It appears from my lovely pictures I had taken that I'll have no rear after the LBL. I would at least prefer to have some rear. I'll wait on the arms and breasts until later. the lower body is my main problem.
I figured that they would tell me ha! you just think you'll be ready for surgery in June. You still have a lot of weight to lose. Instead, his patient coordinator, Jill told me when discussing weight, that she thought from the pictures that all I had left was skin, not fat and she thought Dr. LoMonaco would agree. She said I might compromise my health if I lost any more weight. I would still like to take off another 10 lbs, though.
She predicted that I had 15-20 lbs. of skin to come off my abdomen alone, not including my backside! I figure I should lose at least 20 lbs. w/ the LBL, maybe 25 lbs. If I go ahead and lose 10 more lbs., that would put me after that surgery at 149 lbs. I haven't weighed that little in 20+ years!
She felt my arms weren't too bad, even though I do. My breasts weren't gosh awful either. I can buy expensive bras for several years if I have to.
I'm ready to do this in June, so I paid my deposit and the LBL is on for Friday, June 15, 2007! Yeah...I can start counting down soon. That will give me 7-8 weeks to recover before I return to work in August. All schools in Texas can't start until August 25 or so this year, so I think I'll have almost 2 more weeks than I usually have to recuperate. Now all I have to do is pay for it, but hopefully will have at least half of the $$ it's going to cost.

Hey Karla!
I, too, am going through Dr. Lomonaco's office and am really excited and pumped up! My lbl is scheduled for May 11 and I have already begun the insurance approval process. Dr. Lomonaco thought that the insurance would likely pay for at least the front part of the body lift.
Dr. Lomonaco was my 3rd consult, as I went to two plastic surgeons the insurance recommended first and wasn't impressed. I finally decided to just pay the out of pocket difference to get the best and I wasn't disappointed with him at all. I really feel as though he'll go the extra mile no matter what to make sure that we are treated fairly.
