Hello everyone, I hope you had a good day. I am sitting here watching tv and reading the boards....Today I helped my brother put more stuff on ebay and now we have 38 items listed....The funny thing is, the one thing listed and not expected to sell is the only thing with a bid...Anyway I came home and actually just rested....No nap, just cleaned and sat and talked with the kids and hubby. Tomorrow we are having the electrician come out and hopefully it will not be too expensive for us. But safety first no matter the cost! Help me with my delema...... My 17 year old daughter works as a buser cleaning tables at a resturant in the neighborhood (currently they schedule her 2 hours per week) and has been asking for more hours and they tell her there are none to give out. Well for the holidays they told them no one can request off and guess what....She is working 5 hours Christmas eve from 4p-9pm. We are debating on letting her quit...(she does no that eventually she will have to do her share of the holiday work.).It really isn't worth it she gets $5 per hour under the table and can make tips on top of that but usually it works out to about $6-$7 per hour. but on 2 hours a week only gives her $14..What would you think. Do you think they are using her? What would you do? So tell me about your day..... ~~hugs and well wishes~~ Chris

Hi Chris, I hope the electrician can fix your problem without costing a fortune! I cleaned a little today and then went and finished up my Christmas shopping everything is wrapped and ready to go. I would let your daughter quit 2 hrs a day isn't worth going to work for. She could get another job starting at the 7.00 she's making. She could look into working at a Credit Union as a teller starting at 7 or 8 dollars an hour working at least 20 hours a week. Good luck with your ebaying! Anna

Thanks Anna I agree.....I did have a talk with her and told her to quit. She is a little nervous but I told her to write it out and explain why. She plans on doing it tonight. If she has the courage... ~~hugs and well wishes~~ Chris

I would like to learn how to sell on ebay. It sounds like an interesting way to sell things. As far as your question about letting your daughter quit, I wouldn't think twice about it. The hours they are giving her are nothing more than a way to keep her on the string so they have someone to pull in when they need to. I would definately say that they are useing her. If she is working, it is because she wants and or needs the money. The kind of money you are talking about isn't even a trip to a good movie and yet it disrupts her life. She needs to learn that she is worth haveing a job that respects her and her needs. If it was my daughter I would encourage her to go to her superior and ask for more hours and if the answere is negative then give her two weeks notice. That is an important part of the process. Then I would encourage her to go out and look for a job that better meets her needs. She should start by sitting down with you and mapping out what her needs are, how much time she can realistically give to a job and what kind of job she would really like to have. I wouldn't be a totally bad idea to make a resume. Even a teenager has a lot to offer and applications simply do not allow for full disclosure. Hope my thoughts help. Hazel

Thanks Hazel I appreciate your response, I think she feels like a quitter but they brought this on themselves. She has never called off and has gone in anytime they needed her to come in. I think she is quitting tonight and not going in for Christmas eve.... ~~hugs and well wishes~~ Chris

Chris, Mean answer form me. I would tell her to quit today and tell them to shove the Christmas Eve shift. I mean come on, no other time is she good enough or need to work more than two hours and now they are going to take away the best part of Christmas Eve. Ok, realy I would not tell them to shove it but very nicely, I would get my point across. I know kid who worked at McDonald's and got paid like $7.00 per hour. God Bless! Jen and miracle #2
