Fighting Holiday Temptations

This is a time of year when everyone and his uncle is pressuring me to taste this treat and that...Ive already been gifted with boxes of homemade shortbreads, choclate bark, Christmas pastries....the pressure is on. With all the shopping to do and the stress of extra working hours, I find myself more vulnerable to temptations and Im afraid that I might cave. JB has eggnog in the fridge and peppermint chip ice cream...so far Im not tempted but Im sure Im not the only one who finds these devils too close( Im referring to the sweets, not JB...well okay, maybe I am!). To keep myself on the straight and narrow and to give me courage to say no to all those "just this one little bite!", I have been planning a strategy: 1. have a good supply of my SF fudgicles in the freezer 2. a container of mixed nuts & raisins easily accessible 3. keeping raw mini carrots to nibble 4. having a good assortment of protein flavours so I dont get bored 5. I made a great sugar-free dessert that stays in the fridge and I can always take a small bit of that and not feel deprived while others are eating the fat and sugar loaded stuff...ick! yuck! I do find that most things seem too sweet for my tastes these days...how ironic...it used to be the sweeter, the better... 6. lots of good reading material to occupy my brain 7. Im working on a crochet project (just some afgans for the oncology department at the cancer centre) to occupy my hands..in a basket beside my chair 8. I always multitask...like watching tv AND doing something with my hands like needlework OR being online with 6 windows open, researching, communications, reading, jigsaw puzzle, freecell (not one of my best skills....okay, Im lousy at it). 9. water water water...did I say WATER? (always at my side) This way I have to focus on other things besides food. I do NOT yet have an appetite but Im not taking any chances...if it's in front of me, Id pick at it...old habits die slow. How do you handle the holiday nibblies? Nancy B

The best way I handle it, is that I don't cook it! Luckily, for me my family does all the holiday cooking since I'm single, all I have to do is bring the drinks. So, when I go over to my dad's house they have been kind to add SF desserts and have lots of things I can eat, like fruit and stuff. I also have an addiction to Cool Whip Lite, which has helped me with my addiction to sweets. Thankfully, it hasn't hindered my weight loss success so it must be doing something right. So, maybe get some Cool Whip Lite and some fruits and have yourself a good dessert, that's guilt free! Kelli
