Mothers
My mom has not been terribly supportive in the past and I even debated telling her I was going to have surgery. Then I got to thinking "What if something goes wrong and I haven't spoken to her..." or "Her feelings are going to be hurt if I don't tell her and she hears it from someone else." So I called her about 2 weeks before my surgery. She really surprised me by being supportive.
She is in town for Thanksgiving (she lives in northern Iowa). This is the first time she has seen me since my surgery. I have gone from a 26/28 the last time she saw me to a Missy 14. She has been so complimentary, oohing and aahing over the change. Well, last night she voiced the opinion I had expected from her all along.
We had just gotten off the phone with my cousin who lives about 2 hours away. I have never met his wife but they are coming on Friday to spend the day. My mom was telling me what a sweetheart his wife is and how she has had all of these health problems, etc. She then told me that she (the wife) had lost about 100 lbs a while back - "but she did it through willpower, she didn't have surgery!" Thanks mom!
Sigh!
Anyway, the rest of the family will be here tomorrow and it will be the first time several of them have seen me since surgery. It should be fun!
Have a wonderful holiday everyone!
Susan

Enjoy your Thanksgiving, mother remarks and all! I'm sure you will. Just know that most likely your cousins wife will be plump again next Thanksgiving, while you'll still be small. Then you can tell your mom...Hmmm...looks like she lost her willpower. Surgery really is the best choice for some. I know before I had surgery I used to think that I didn't want to take the easy way out...now I know that it isn't!
Wear your skinniest looking outfit and wow the rest of them Susan.
