Throwing up............

Hi guys....I'm a lurker........but I have a question and now is my time to come out of hiding. I had surgery on Jan 26th 2006 and have never been able to throw up no matter how sick I have felt after surgery. To this day I cannot throw up. Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to but there have been times I have felt sick and had the feelings of throwing up and could not. I guess the thing that worries me is that ......throwing up is our bodies natural way to deal with things it is unhappy with.........such as bad food or if your sick. Has anyone else had this side effect? Did you ask your doctor about it and if so what did they say?

Hey you lurker I'm glad you decided to come out! You should talk to us more often. We are pretty cool people. Anyway, I had surgery on 1/13 and have never thew up either. In the beginning, I got the foamies really bad all the time when I tried to eat meat but no throwing up. I still dump when I eat high fat foods and want to throw up to feel better but I just "gag". Nothing ever comes up. It hurts just as bad. I have never asked my surgeon about it but I guess this would be a good question to ask. I hope you find the answer. Come back and visit Kay

Hey Debbie: Same problem here. Not able to throw up. Even when I want to! Early on, I would try to make myself vomit if I was feeling pain but nothing ever came up! Where does the food go that quickly!? I do not feel the need to throw up much, anymore, thankfully! Hopefully, someone can help with your question... Hugs, Jersey Mom

Lucky you.. I have thrown up daily since surgery and wish I couldn't throw up. So I guess you've shown me there are 2 sides to the coin. Thank you. Maybe this is the way my body is dealing with it and keeping me from being sicker than I already am. Hugs, Julie

Hi Debbie. Welcome to our little family! I haven't thrown up either. All I ever do is dry heave. I feel like something is coming up but it never does. I have my appt. on the 30th of this month. I'll be sure to ask him! Thanks for posting this...it's a very good question. April

Welcome Debbie I'm glad you've come out of lurkerdome I have the opposite problem, I throw up too easily. I never did before surgery, well hardly ever but now it happens several times a week. In fact Saturday night it work me up out of a deep sleep about midnight and I started to throw up and this went on until 6:30 the next morning. I was almost ready to call the doc and meet him at the ER. It was very weird---all liquid for like 6 hours.:barb: I must have had a bit of a bug cause I slept almost all day on Sunday and then felt better---but did liquids only all day. I guess everyone is different and there definately is no normal. Nice to meet you. Regards and hugs, Ronna

HI Debbie! I had my surgery two days before you and I still get the foamies...rarely does the food actually come up though there's times that I wi**** would and just get it over with! I still have issues with dense foods like meat...I can only seem to manage it if it is finely minced and mixed with moist stuff like gravy or mashed potatoes So I tend to stick with soups, finely chopped salads, cottage cheese and fish and, since I still have NO appetite anyways, and since eating has become a chore, I dont really care what I eat...lol.....isnt THAT ironic!! I find it so interesting how our bodies all react in different ways since surgery. My utritionist says I must be doing something wrong (HA!) and my surgeons and my family doctor say Im doing just fine and as long as I feel good and my bloodwork continues to show such great levels, not to worry..we all work it out in our own ways *s* Nancy B

Hey Debbie, Nice to meet you! I have only actually thrown up once and it was very little. I have not asked my surgeon, but it sounds like it must be normal for us WLSers! Don't be a stranger! Leeanne
