Someone asked me to post this...Im sorry, I cant remember who that was..Im SO blonde..but here it is: * beef bones from the butcher * large canning pot filled 2/3 with cold water * 2 pounds of fresh extra lean ground beef * 1 1/2 cups of pearl or pot barley * finely chopped onions, carrots, celery, potatoes, leeks and summer savoury, garlic cloves, salt, black pepper( my family prefers a THICK soup) 1. add the beef bones to the pot of water, bring to a boil.. 2. turn down the heat and let the bones simmer for 3 hours 3. cool overnight in the fridge 4. skim off all of the fat and discard the beef bones too 5. add the ground beef, breaking it up so it doesnt stay in big clumps as it cooks 6. add the barley and veggies 7. add the herbs and spices 8. simmer another 2 hours til the meat, the veggies and the barley is cooked. a good hearty high protein soup/meal Nancy B
