A Major Relief - The Boob Saga Ends Well
Sorry it's taken me so long to update but I've been alittle out of it. I got home from the hospital yesterday around dinner time and all I wanted to do was sleep. So that's pretty much what I did.
Anyway here is what happened yesterday. I got to the hospital at 8:30 as requested. Signed in at registration and then up to Day Surgery. There I signed in again and was given an order for Nuclear Medicine. I told them that nothing was going to happen until I found out the results of the 2 biopsies that I had had and what the action plan was.
I was lucky that I got a Patient Advocate who was a breast cancer survivor and was shocked and appaled that I was scheduled for a procdure and I didn't even have results of testing yet. She said, "It is Cancer, you know?" I said I didn't know as no one has been willing to talk to me about the results.
She said she would go and pull up the reports and go over them with me. Low and behold, when she got the reports it showed that I was CANCER FREE and there was no need for me to go to Nuclear Medicine for more tests. Something was finally going in the right direction.
She got ahold of my surgergon and he promised to come and talk to me before my lumpectomy.....so just on the right side, Yippee!
So I go back to Day Surgery and get undressed and into a gown....not even a big gown this time and they start an IV. It's about 9:30 now and I'm not scheduled for surgery untill 1:00 p.m. And all I want is a nice big bottle of ice water....my kingdom for some water....but I can't have any.
Luckily there is a TV in the cube so we watch the end of Oprah, the View and then on to Judging Amy on TNT. Don't ask me what any of it was about cause I don't remember. I think I was just zoning out and hoping the time would pass quickly so this would be over.
About 12:30 they start an IV, which hurts like hell. I have rotten veins and they always have a hard time getting this started.
Well my sugeon is late, his previouis surgery ran long. Finally about 1:30 in he strolls and holds my hand so tight it feels like he is going to break it off. He apologizes profusly and again tells me how optimisitic he is based on the reports we got, but we wont really know until the "mass" is removed.
They then wheel me into the OR. The staff there is very upbeat and friendly which helps and the Anastigiologist (boy I know I spelled that wrong, wish this thing had spellcheck) joined right in. He gave me some great drugs and I didn't feel a thing and woke up in recover at about 3:30. I stayed there for about 30 minutes. The pain was not bad, about a 3 but they still gave me pain meds and "bless them" ice chips as well.
About 4 p.m. I was wheeled back to Day Surgery able to sit in a nice comfy chair and given a turkey sandwich to eat ( I only ate one slice of the toast and bruched off all the mayo) but boy did it taste good - I hadn't eaten anything for almost 20 hours at that point. My sister comes in and says she saw the sugeon after the surgery and he told her the "mass" was benign. Big relife all around
After a short time the nurse came in with discharge instructions, an RX for Vicodin and I was able to get dressed and go home.
I have to make an appointment to see the surgeon again next Thursday or Friday for a followup, but no stiches to remove --- they are self-disolving.
And the best yet.......really no pain. A bit achey but tolerable.
So thanks everyone for your well wishes and good vibes but, I'm home and doing just great!
Much love and hugs to you all
Ronna
