FYI Time Released Medications

Hi Peeps, Some of you may already be aware of this, but in case you aren't I thought I'd pass it on. Gastric Bypass patients should not take timed released/extended release medications because they don't stay in our system long enough to be able to do their job properly. I was given the new Ultram ER for chronic pain and unfortunately AFTER I purchased them I found out at a support group meeting that we can't use them. My surgeon's office also confirmed this when I needed some antibiotics for my FIRST bad cold since my bypass surgery. A lot of the newer antibiotics only need to be taken once a day because they're extended release. Just thought I'd share this info.

Thanks for the info. In addition, really any kind of medicine doesn't stay in our system long enough. But the extended release ones are definitely harder for us. You can the ER meds....they just won't last as long, and they might be a little bit more potent. April
