Hypogycemia
I'm wondering if anyone else has been having problems with low blood sugars since having surgery. My problems has really increased in the last month or so. I am down 100lbs, have lost all my excess weight and feel great except for the hypoglycemia.
I am trying to eat "right" to keep my sugar level, but if I flub up it goes way low....
Anybody else?
P.S. I don't "dump" officially on sugar, but I think this is my body's version. I feel fine after I eat/drink something high in sugar, but about two hours later I get the reaction.
I have had problems with hypoglycemic since surgery. I was tested by an endocronogist. SP? Anyway it's a 3 day fast.. which means 3 days of nothing bu****er. I was in the hospital and 3 days of no food or anything for me is a breeze as I hardly drink or eat at all anyway. That is my big problem.. I don't eat enough or drink enough so my blood sugar drops. The doctor also told me some women run low blood sugars. If you have symptoms then you should worry.
Symptoms include: chills, shakes, dizzinesss, cannot stand, feeling faint. And when I say shakes I mean SHAKES!! I also get headaches.
Talk to your doctor if you have any of these symptoms and keep something like candy with sugar around to get your sugar boosted quickly.
When this first happened, I passed out. They told me to drink some juice - I said I have NOTHING in this house with SUGAR in it. I learned then to keep things around with Sugar that is fast and easily accessible.
Good Luck!
Hugs,
Julie
I get this often but I am diabdtic and stuill on some insulin although I keep getting cut back and now take nearly none. When do you have these episodes? For me it was typcially in the middle of the night, so I have to makesure I have a "night time snack" that's high in protein around 8:00 p.m. and that has helped alot.
When I am in one of the episodes I take glucose tablets - 4 of them and that usually birngs the sugar level up to normal in a few minutes.
I get the shakes, sweats, dizzyness and can bearely walk when this happens to be. I have gone down as far at 35.
It's not anything to mess with, so talk to your doctor if you haven't already.
Regards,
Ronna
Funny you should bring this up now......I have had 2 or 3 episodes in the past week or so. I have only had 3 other times this has happened that I remember in my life and now for some reason it is happening. I have been having them around 8-9 pm and luckily have had a piece of candy in the house since it is almost halloween. The only symptom I have with mine so far is the shakes and a little clamminess. I checked my sugar and it had dropped to 37 two nights ago which was the last time I had the episode. I am calling my doc this week to talk to her and see where we need to be with it. My last blood tests all came back fine but I think we may need a retest. Good luck with your sugars and let us know how you are doing!!!

Hello Ann. This has been a huge issue for me in the past few months. My sugar is doing the same thing as yours. Last Sunday I had a bad little episode. I was taking a nap before work and woke up drenched in sweat and shaking. I checked my sugar and it was in the 30's. I work in the ER and Ive seen patients come in unresponsive at these levels and it scares the crap outta me that this could happen to me. The best advice my doctor had for me was to eat healthy.......duh! But the halloween candy calls my name from time to time and I pay for it in just a few hours. I hope this helps, if nothing else just to know your not alone...........

Thanks for all the replies. I feel better knowing it's not just me. I have read some articles about Gastric Bypass and hypoglycemia. The theory is that some peoples Pancreas goes into overdrive after surgery and produces too much insulin. Great.....
Anyway, I am going to my Dr. tomorrow. Will see what he has to say. I have also been getting readings in the 30's, scary. It seems to be controlled by how much sugar I consume, so I may just have to totally stay away from it. The last two times were after I drank hot chocolate and hot cider. I guess that is kind of a duh thing, but somewhere in my brain I though maybe it would be ok???
