EXERCISE?

Just curious fellow post-ops, what do you all do for excerise? I was going to curves and walking and my weight loss really slowed. I actually gained some too as you might remember from my previous posts. This week I did not go to the gym and walked about 2 miles from Wednesday thru Friday and lost 3.5 lbs just like that. I have noticed that I lose faster walking than going to curves. I hear it is better to build muscle as you lose weight but I figure since my concern is losing lbs. and my body and excess skin is beyond repair meaning I will need major reconstructive surgery cause it is really, really bad I should just do what works best for me as far as losing weight and exercise. What do you all do for exercise?? Just curious again, maybe I am doing something wrong. I am officially down 130 lbs and 8 months post op tommorow. The last time I saw my surgeon he said be good, I am thinking it is because he does not think I am losing what I should. Oh well, all I can do is work my butt off and try. Do you all think 2 miles a day is enough exercise? I have 4 more lbs. to be under 300 wish me luck Love & Hugs Norma

Norma, How can "I am officially down 130 lbs and 8 months post op tommorow" be "doing something wrong"? You've done fantasticly, Woman! As for excersize, I do 3 miles on a stationary bike every other day, walk a mile every other day, do weights 5 days a week and take the occasional yoga class. But I have no life ! You'll reach "two-derland" in no time. Then it's non-stop to Onderland for everyone!! RobinNJ

Norma, My doctor told me to walk 2 miles a day 5 days per week and the weight comes off. I am now walking with weights I bought that fit to my fingers and wrists and I do arm reps while walking. I think my arms are improving and I am probably helping my back muscles too. I bet you will get tons of different responses but it seems to work for me. I think you are doing wonderfully and perhaps you are reading something into what your doctor said. I bet he is really proud of you. I know I am. Keep up the great work.. ~~hugs and well wishes~~ Chris

Good morning Norma-You have done great! I did notice for awhile when I was doing 45 minutes of cardio a day and weights 3x per week that my weigh loss slowed and my nutritionalist actually said I wasnt eating enough for the amount of exercise I was doing, so I cut back on the exercise a LITTLE and I started losing more again however now I am going to try to eat a little more and go back to doing my old exercise routine because I felt better then( not that I feel awful now but just different without the extra workouts) anyway I alternate between my treadmill and elliptical and since it will hopefully start getting cooler down here in FL soon I am going to look into purchasing a bike to start riding outside-I also go to the pool as well-I think its important to change things up a bit regularly so you dont get bored-Good luck getting under 300 I know you will do it!!!!!! : ) Lori

Norma - it sounds like you're doing really well. 2 miles is enough to walk, but you might want to go to the gym some days and walk some days. I alternate so I don't get bored and so I can work muscles some days, do cardio other days. I ride my recumbent bike some days, treadmill or walk some days, and use our weight lifting machine other days. I generally lose 2-3 lbs. per week. You'll be in the 2's before you know it.
