Topic: RE: 3 year update - the good, the bad & the ugly!
Hey, Vicky, I haven't been back here in a while. As I was reading your post, I was thinking how similar our stories are(except for the plastic surgery part. I am saving up for a pedal harp and they start around $22, 000.00. So tummy will always sag. ) : ( My weight was very stable for three years(I thought the scale was broken because it NEVER moved!) Then, we had some family crisis' and I was the "responsible one" so I took over family members care and let myself go to pot. No exercise, bad eating habits, etc. My clothes started getting tight, but the scale didn't move. Then one day, I got on it and I had gained 12 lbs. !!! I ran to the doctor and weighed on his scale. Sure enough, I had gained. But not 12 lbs. 15 lbs.!!! So, I called a family meeting and told everyone that my health was impaired and I needed some help to get well again. My hubby pitched right in(although he has the same issues) and my kids were great. They monitored my portions, my speed(I invented speed eating, because in my job, you only had ten or 15 minutes to eat.) and they kept me honest ( I was sneaking bowls of cheetos at least one a week and had been seen eating a (shudder) DONUT!!!) I also started a very light daily work out. The clothes are looser, now. I am ten lbs. lighter and I have a new bathroom scale!!! I also quit my job and started my own business. I am so successful, I am turning away business! Not enough time! : ) We are moving to a new house that is beautiful and my kids will be going to a great new school. Things are looking up. Best Wishes to all of you on the board! And Vicky, don't worry, honey chile'...when you follow the plan, it still melts off like it did before. It just leaves us looking a little drippy! Lou Ann G.

Topic: RE: Acid or Bile Reflux
I found this thread because I am doing some research about bile reflux. I had surg. in May of 05 and have had no complications of any sort until now. once or twice a week I will wake up choking, having aspirated bile!..It BURNS my lungs, tastes awful and feels very serious. Have not seen a doctor yet. I don't live in the same state where my surg. was done. Andrea

I hope I'm not too late in my reply. Thank you for sharing. I'm also three years out. Pre surgery I was 285 and am currently 155. Low weight was 145 and the last three weeks I've worked very hard to get down to 155 and hope to get back down to 145. 2007 was a rough year and i gained 25 pounds. Now i'm not sure how much i should eat or how often. I had heard that eating several small meals a day now is discouraged. Does anyone know why? What is "normal" three years out? I'm so afraid of stretching my stomach and permanent weight gain.

Dear Melissa, I just checked in and found your request for help. Yes, you can take meds. I was having some of the same problems .... I found a good therapist and some good meds and feel much better. I hope this helps, Judy

Hey Beth sorry to hear your having a little difficulty and at this juncture it is just a little. Look at your picture posted here and then look at one where you used to be the other you. I do that on a regular basis to remind myself why I did what we all have done(surgery) and why you need to get back on track. I too did drank a lot of diet soda and was told by my surgeon that it very well might be the reason I was starting to gain. I have since stopped and only occasionally will have some and I mean only occasionally. I have lost what was put on and have now maintained. Give that a try. I continue to drink a lot of water and add Crystal Light to it sometimes. I also drink coffee with splenda or some other sugar substitute. I do like my coffee. Hope you get back on track without to much trouble you have come a long way and are beautiful.

greetings beth long time no see you here! sorry you're having problems with re-gain. i'm not sure what to advise you -- i've managed to never start the soda (or anything carbonated) habit again. i do drink regular coffee by the gallon - i drink it black, though, no splenda. other than coffee, i drink propel. i just saw something on the news about a study that indicated drinking diet soda causes weight gain, so perhaps that is at the root of your problems. i don't do a lot of dairy either -- not a milk drinker and haven't had any ice cream. i do eat cheese without problems. i've not tested it a lot...but i think i may be one of those who doesn't dump. i stay away from sugar as a general rule. i have problems if i eat something with carbs like a bagel, or something like that - an hour or so later, my blood sugar drops and i get light headed, sweat pours off me, etc. it's quite unpleasant and has been a real motivator for me to stay away from things that trigger those episodes! i'm still drinking protein drinks (as i genuinely like the ones i drink!), and i eat protein bars quite often too. other than that, i stick to fish or chicken, some veggies, i eat nuts, too -- i'm really not very adventurous in my eating anymore! i've lost 280 lbs at this point - my bmi is now 26.2. it was 66.4 when i started this journey, so i'm delighted with how things have gone for me. i guess my advice to you would be get back to the basics. try to avoid that diet soda, and focus on protein. wishing you all the best! deb

Beth, Thank you for the support - I need all I can get!! My son's birthday is also on 1/28!! I had planned to begin the 5DPT today (Monday), then realized I have a dinner scheduled with friends on Tuesday night. I figured it did not make much sense to do 2 days of liquids when I was going to dinner on Day 2 at the Olive Garden. Didn't think there was much chance of staying on the plan!! So I've got check with my hubby to see what is planned for the weekend to decide if I'm going to begin the 5DPT on Wed. or wait until next Monday. Good luck to us both as we work to get back on track and get these pounds off for good!! Vickie J.
