Topic: RE: What to pack for out of town ps? (cross post)
Vickie,
I haven't had PS(yet), but my mom has and she said:
Bring books, music, straws(for sipping soup and drinks)tylenol liquid, extra pillows to prop yourself up while sleeping, a heating pad or neck pillow that microwaves, and if your doctor allows it, plenty of cold compresses. Get a dry shampoo; can't wash your hair for a while. Also, try to find a hotel that has room service or a local delivery service for soups and stuff.
My suggestions: 1.Don't forget your protein. 2. Rent movies of gorgeous men and comedies, but no weepies! "Crying hurts" Mom said. Good luck and your pics look fab!!!

I will be leaving Sunday to drive 8+ hours to have facial plastic surgery. I will be in the hospital 1 night, and in a hotel for another 5 or 6 days. What should I take with me for my comfort, medical recovery needs and food. Thanks in advance for your help & suggestions!

Thanks a bunch Carolyn...I just got over one a few weeks ago..my weight loss now is due to stress...can't eat...school has me banging my head against the wall, lol!
This will come in handy the next time my weight loss slows to a trickle. I thought my goal weight would be somewhere around 250 (on the bmi chart)..but then my doctor said he could see me going down to 200..even 170 something...not fair!! Here I am, almost at the "goal"..(maybe even there now) that was originally set, and I have to loose more. Did anyone else hear something like that from their dr.?
Topic: RE: Adjusting to my new real world
True..I'm very happy about the weight loss...it's adjusting to the way society views me now. A college campus is pretty enclosed...you see the same faces often...and those same people address me differently than they did a year ago. Thank goodness, not all of them...and for that I am glad. I still feel uneasy...I'm still finding myself, and trying to adjust to things I never thought about having to deal with post-op.

This is what he told me to eat:
Breakfast: egg and fruit (!/2 grapefruit, apple or orange are the only fruit allowed)
Lunch and Dinner: Dense protein like Chicken, Fish, Pork, Beef or Seafood; Baked or Grilled - Not fried and cooked vegtables (no potatoes or corn) or a salad (no iceberg lettuce). This does NOT allow for bread, potatoes of any kind, pasta or rice.
One or two protein drinks daily: he has put me on Nectar Protein Drinks because they have 23 gms of protein and only 90 calories, 0 fat and 0 carbs.
Snacks if hungry between meals or for an evening snack: Baby carrots, vegetables salad, celery sticks, apples, oranges, hard boiled eggs and sliced deli meats.
This means NO: nuts, popcorn, pretzels, yogurt, candy (even sugar free), really, anything not listed.
It is ESSENTIAL to drink at least 64 oz of water (crystal light counts) daily. You cannot drink with your meals or 30 minutes after your meals - this washes your food through your pouch and makes you feel hungry again very soon.
The main rules I put into a mantra for myself: vitamins in (you must take some good vitamins - he prefers bariatric vitamins), water in (at least 64 oz daily), protein first (you always eat protein first at your meals) and GET MOVING (if you do not do some type of regular exercise, you need to begin a regular exercise program).
I hope this helps.
Blessings,
Carolyn
