Hi Lou Ann. I find that I will lose a pound here and there. It is really slow and I'm pretty much at goal so I don't expect it to continue. I also find that I can put on a pound or two~URGH~so then I have to get focused and take it right back off. I weigh myself daily so I know on any given day what I weigh. I would secretly like to lose 2 more pounds just so I can see 150 on the scale, LOL, but I know it would be pretty tough for me to maintain that weight! I guess we'll see what happens! It has been 18 months since my surgery(or rebirth). I have lost 135 lbs. I thought I was done, but now I realize that I am still losing, only so slowly that it is hardly noticible. Anyone else in my shoes? Lou Ann

My favorite 4th was always the same....going to Aunt Jo's for the family picnic and swimming in her pool. It was a sad day when she stopped holding the parties. I have a big family: 24 aunts and uncles and 65 cousins. There was always someone to hang out with there. Linda

This is the question of the day (QOTD) on the California board. I just wanted to share this with everyone. I also want to know your favorite 4th of July. Come on and share!!! I grew up in Boston. The 4th of July is a major big deal there! My favorite 4th was in 1976, the 200th Anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Some friends and I camped out overnight at the Hatch Memorial Shell in downtown Boston so that we would have great seats (on a blanket on the grass) to the Boston Pops concert and the fireworks afterwards. My friends and I were attending Northeastern University at the time. I was in their choral society as were the majority of the 50 or so people with whom I had gone to the concert. The choral society from Boston University (arch enemies) was also there. We entertained the folks waiting for the concert to begin by having a singing competition between the two colleges. There were tourists from all over the world at this particular concert who thought that this choral competition was part of the show. Unfortunately, I think BU won. boo hiss The Pops were fantastic. Arthur Fiedler was the conductor back then. They did their signature piece at the end... Tchaichovsky's Overture to the War of 1812. The end of the piece is the victory. Church bells from all over the downtown area of the city were ringing like crazy. The army set of Howitzers. All of this was followed by 70 minutes of the best fireworks display I have ever seen. They estimated that there were one and one half million people in the park area, on the overpasses, over walkways, and on Storrow Drive to see all of this. The area of the Hatch shell can accommodate about 500,000 people uncomfortably. It is a concert and fireworks display that I will never forget. I went to this concert and fireworks display from 1972 until 1980 when I moved from Boston. I so wish that I could take my husband and children to see this. To quote someone ever so famous... Thanks for the memory! Dianne

Hi Lou Ann! I'm glad to hear that you are taking it easy!!! I noticed that you mentioned that you are taking anti-inflamatories. Not to alarm you, but did you check first with your WLS surgeon? The reason I'm mentioning this is because I was taking Celebrex for a torn ligament in my right knee, and my WLS surgeon told me not to take any anti-inflamatory medications after my gastric bypass. You might want to check with your surgeon just to be sure. Take care and hope you feel better!! Have a restful holiday tomorrow!!! Hugs and aloha, Pat

Thanks for the support! I am taking it very easy this week and taking anti inflamatories. I feel a little better today, but I did spend most of the day lying down flat. Lou Ann

Lou Ann, I feel your pain as I herniated the L-5 disc about 5 years after a fall on some ice. Like you my diagnosis was very delayed and by then the scar tissue that had formed and eliminated me as a candidate for surgery. I went through months of physical therapy, massage therapy, chiropractic visits and accupuncture....some things helped temporarily, but nothing gave lasting relief. I had an epidural and steriod injection and luckily that reduced the swelling and nerve impingement and I've not had any major problems since. I do have to watch how much I lift and some times my back strains easily, but for the most part it's been okay. Being in chronic pain is horrible and people just don't realize how much it impacts your quality of life unless they've been there themselves. My husband herniated the L-4 and L-5 (falling at home like me so it couldn't be charged to workers compt) and he had to have 2 epidurals and really should have gone back for a third, but he's stubborn and didn't want to take anymore time off of work since he was out for over 3 months. His job is physical and he lifts a lot of freight so that doesn't help his long-term outcome...he still has back pain. Hope you find some relief soon. Congrats on getting into a smaller size!! Mary Ellen
