Topic: Protein and vitamins
I cut back on my vitamins because the doctor told me that I didnt need them anymore that My gastric bypass surgeon, and since then I have been have energy problems, so I went back on them and this is week two. I am not falling asleep anymore and I was doing that in the middle of the day. So my question is that should I be still drinking protein shakes and also bars. How much is too much cuz i want to avoid gaining weight. I actually want to lose more. thanks stacy
Topic: RE: Are you "tempted" more now??
Oh yes! I haven't touched any sweets at all so that is not a problem. My biggest temptation is breads and snack crackers. I allow myself some and try to monitor my portion sizes.
That is my biggest fear is regaining the weight. How am I coping...I guess to say jus****ching. If I do overdo, I still get sick...so that may be a plus.
Good luck and keep up the protein.

Topic: Are you "tempted" more now??
Now that we're 18 months post-op, are you finding yourself more tempted by poor food choices & old habits? I'm having to work much, much harder to stay within my food plan these days! NOT FAIR!! I had hoped that by the time I was this far out I would have retrained my brain not to gravitate towards those old favorites - sweets & starchy carbs. I have not begun to regain any of my lost weight but if I can't get a better grip on these desires I'm afraid weight regain is in my future.
Are you having these same problems and if so, how are you coping?

Topic: RE: I need your advice
Stacy,
I don't really have any advice for you except to suggest discussing your body image concerns with your therapist. I've read that it takes 1-2 years after we've lost the weight to really "see" it for ourselves. I still do a double take sometimes when I catch my reflection in a store window as I walk by.
For me, I'm "seeing" the new me better since I had some plastic surgery. I know ps is not possible or desired by everyone but it has helped me believe the scales b/c now I don't see all that hanging lower body skin.
If you're not active in a support group - start going to meetings! If there isn't a group in your area, get as active with online groups like OH as you possibly can. I find I do better when I have other wls patients helping me stay accountable for what I eat & do.
Good luck & hang in there!

Topic: I need your advice
I had surgery as you know in January of 2006. I started at 260 and now am teetering between 180 and 187. (I would post pix if I knew how, hubby will help me when he is done with playstation game) So here I am, 18 months out and i am now stopped, put the brakes on, now more losing, and I am panicking. I wonder all the time, should I not eat, should I go to a liquid diet, should I started running, I even looked at diet supplements tonite at target. It scared me what extremes I go through to keep going. I have been also taking more bites than chocolate than I should and having real sugar in my coffee. Today i stopped all that madness. What is worse is that I feel like my body is at the same size where I started and I know that cant be true cuz my clothes are smaller than when I was 260. I was in a size 18 to 19 and now I wear size 10-11. So how can I conquer all these fears, I already see a therapist, lol. Huggs to all. thanks in advance for your advice Stacy

Hi Kristi,
I am 5'4", starting weight - 256lbs current weight 130lbs
I had plastics on July 5, 2006 (lbl, thighplasty, lipo, facelift, ba/bl). I'm still recovering from the plastics since I had it all done on the same day.
Hope this helps some, take care!
God bless,
Syndi
Topic: RE: side effects a year and a half later!!!!!
Yes...2 months after surgery, i lost so much weight, my posture changed, and I experienced sharp pain. I was diagnosed with the same disk problem and tried a couple of treatments of epidural injections...AWFUL!!! I thought I was going to pass out. My back still hurts, but not as bad as it once did...the weight loss helped ease the muscle pain too.
I hope your steroid treatments are better than the ones I had.
Topic: RE: Smoothie Recipes
Hey Janet,
I use 1 cup skim milk, 4-5 ice cubes, 1/2 cup either fresh or frozen fruit. I use mainly berries since they have antioxidents. Bannanas are high in sugar so if I use them it is only in the morning and only about a 1/3 of the bannana. I use one scoop of Isopure protien powder. Mix in the blender and they are yummy. I switch between chocolate and vanilla to keep things tasty.
Also almond and other extracts are great to add for flavor.
