Thanks for responding. I'll have to visualize being curled up with the heating pad on my tummy next time I reach for the bread basket!! That ought to do it!!! Vickie J.

It mostlikely is the bread making you sick. The best way I have found not to eat it, tell them not to bring it to your table. Just ask the other guest if they can assist you with this, if you explain it is so you can all eat healthy, I bet they will be ok. Jenn

Vickie - I so have the same problem! I have always had a fondness for really good bread, but if I indulge in some any more, I feel really bad and most times am sick. If you find a way to avoid that "hot, homemade, yeast bread" please let me know! It is still a huge weakness of mine! Cheri

Topic: RE: Expensive insurance?? yes or no
I would say, if it covers ALL the costs of your gastric by-pass surgery (labs, surgeon, hospital, anesthesia, etc), even with a modest deductable the cost sounds pretty good to me! Figure you'll pay $2,400/yr in premiums + $100 starting fee. That's only $2,500. The total cost of my lap RNY (surgeon, anesthesia, hospital, radiology, etc.) was about $25,000. Fortunately, my insurance covered all but about $3,000. So, in my opinon, even if you had to pay $3,000 in deductable + $2,500 in premiums, you've still spent less than $6,000 which might sound high to you, but is a lot less than $25,000! One word of caution - be sure the surgeon, anesthesiologist and hospital you plan to use are in your insurance coverage "network". If they are "out of network" providers, your out of pocket expenses will be much greater. Good luck! Vickie J.

Congrats Becky! Isn't it great??!! It has turned off cool here is FL & since I'm cold-natured since wls, I had to break down & go buy some long sleeved shirts & jeans. I didn't have much time, so I just grabbed some size 16 jeans & 12-14 shirts to take home & try on. I had to go back to the store yesterday to exchange the 16 jeans for size 14s! I just couldn't believe it!!! I love it!!!! Vickie J.

Topic: Help - Bread problems!
Help! I'm 9 months out & have noticed that when eating in some restaurants, I've begun to nibble on the bread they bring to the table before the meal. Twice in the past week I've eaten my usual small amount of food, but felt miserable after my meal - felt like I'd swallowed a rock! Then I realized I'd eaten a piece or 2 of bread before the meal. I don't have a problem resisting the bread during my meal & don't drink with or immediately after my meal. So the only change in my eating pattern seems to be the bread. Could that be causing the misery? And how do I keep myself from indulging in that wonderful, hot homemade yeast bread? (I only do this at places with fabulous tasting bread, not the garden variety bread at most restaurants). Vickie J.

Topic: RE: 10 lbs. per month for RNY? What about banding?
The decsision to go for the RNY or the Band is always a difficult one and very personal. Do your research, research, research!! In the end you just have to make one decision and stick with it. For me it had a lot to do with the stats.. It is said that 50% of excess weight is lost on average with the band, and 75% with the RNY. Now those are just averages, and I can tell you I know many many people who have lost 100% of their excess with the band. For me it also came down to the fact that I could not have this fail ! I know that I could have had the band and if that was not working for me then had the RNY, but at my age that was the driving factor. I wanted something that I was certain would give me 75% excess weight gone for good. If I were under 45 yrs then I might have considered the Band. I have already lost 73% of my excess weight and still hope to loose another 30 lbs to reach my personal goal. So you will find there is all kinds of reason why not to, why to.. etc.. and in the end it is a very difficult decision you have to make solely my yourself. Good luck to you in whichever you pursue. Topic: RE: HUNGRY!!!!!
I have been away from the boards for a while now, but check in to see how everyone is doing, and once again I am so glad that I did. I have been the same way for about 2 weeks now. All I want to do is snack. And nothing seems to give me that "oh no, I shouldn't have had that" feeling any more. I've lost 140 lbs. and am loosing about 5 lbs. a month now and I'm scared to death that it's going to find me again with this new appetite. Glad to see I'm not alone, but what do we do about it ! remember thinking, "how do people gain weight back", because I couldn't imagine being able to eat enough to gain. Well I seem to be getting it now

i toasted half a slice of whole grain bread and spread a tablespoon of peanut butter on it. i also ate a banana...and i don't feel bad about it. the bag of combo's i grabbed at school today with a small coffee might be considered a "no-no" though, lol! i go through snacky times and then there are times when i just don't want to look at food...have to make myself eat something. when i get in the mood to nibble it only takes a day of being too busy to eat for the munchies to go bye-bye. of course, the best way is to go back to stage one...but i keep forgetting to try that.
