Topic: RE: Keep a look out during the holidays...
Yes these types of scams are common this time of year. And all times too especailly in large cities.
People people.. please never give any money and never never give your name and address. Another common scam is to ask for money with the intention to send you the funds back by asking for your address. They your identity is stolen, or worse they rob you house.
I know it is hard because we are all soft hearted and want to help people, the problem is you just cannot trust most people anymore, and unfornutately that hurts to truely needy.
I hear about this type of thing all the time. I never open my door to anyone that I do not know, and when approched for cash never give any period!! It's hard to say no when you think they might really be needy, but you just cannot take the chance. Or you can take the chance but just figure that the $$ you give is like throwing it down the toliet, it's a 50/50 chance that the story is true.
Too bad it's like this now...
Topic: Keep a look out during the holidays...
Hi All:
Seems like I lost more than fat this past year.... I was home early today (I have 1/2 day Fridays) and an older man knocked at my door. Since I am short, I can't really see out of the door. I opened the door and he preceeds to tell me the following:
My mother and I broke down up the street and Mr. Riggles at the Getty will tow me for $60.00. I had to walk to the station and that's were my mother is now. She's 75. I'm blind in one eye (which I could clearly see that he was) and I am $18.00 short.
I proceed to tell him that I have no money on me and that I would be more than happy to call the station and put the remainer on my credit card. He said that he would come back if he needed it. My man pulled up a few minutes later and I was side tracked...
I was going to call the Getty and pay for it. Well, the man came back and I had my man give me all he had on him... $15.00 (we normally carry no money) My guy kept telling me that the Getty was a good mile away and that it didn't seem right... I'm the street smart one so he gave me the money....
Worried that the man would not get the $3, I called the Getty and found out that I was the 3rd person who called and that it was a scam!!!!
WHAT!?!?! Can you believe it!?!?! My mom (I had to call her and make her proud...) said, "Blind people even if it's in one eye can't drive"
Yeah.. Yeah.. I know. Don't let the christmas spirt get you in trouble....

Topic: RE: Help!Get me off of this platueau!!
Nicole, keep the faith, you are on a plateau, but it will keep coming off as long as you are doing exactly what you should do. I am living proof of that. I was in a 26/28 almost 11 months ago, and now I am in a size 10/11. My highest weight was 286. Just dont lose the faith. I didnt get into a size 14 until I was like 175, so if you are in one now, you are doing good. Remember, too that everyone's body type is different, so your size 14 might be someone elses size 16/18, and so on...
Smile, How do you feel?? Ask yourself that question, and as long as you can answer "much better than before" you are on the right track... Plateaus are a bummer, but they are only temporary, and sometimes they can last a bit. You have to remember as well that the further you are away from your actual surgery date, the slower the wieght will come off. email me if you ever want to chat [email protected].~ Marisa Guevara RNY 1/18/05 Dr Paul Enochs, Raleigh, NC 286/170/138

Topic: Plastics Scheduled
As it stands today I will be having Hernia repair, belt lipectomy, bilateral mastopexy & bilateral brachioplasty on Jan 25th. Dr. Singh will do the hernia repair and Dr. King will do the plastics.
Please keep me in your prayers as after all the complications I had with the gastric bypass I am hoping for a routine surgery this time. I have appointments with hemotologist, cadiologist , Dr. Singh, Dr. King & Dr. Michalek all in Jan prior to the surgery.
Gonna be a busy January.
My employer doesn't seem to thrilled with me taking some time off so I hope it will be smooth sailing, I didn't telll them if all goes well I want to do the thighs too. LOL

Topic: RE: What to do What to do
Hey Suzanne,
Congratulations on your success so far....you look fantastic!!
I don't have a lot of advice to give you, only wanted to let you know you're not alone in how your emotions are running right now. I also went through a period where I was beating myself up and almost bordering on being ungrateful about the accomplishment I made with my surgery. I got so consumed about numbers....on the scale, the size tags of my clothes, etc, they weren't were I "thought" I should be. I was upset because I'm still in a 14 (started out at 26/3XL) even though I'm exercising and eating good. I wanted to be like others on the board who are a size 8 or smaller or who got close to goal really quickly. I finally had to find a place of acceptance that my journey is not going to be the same as others.....there are certain physiological things about my health history (having PCOS, being obese since a young age and living that lifestyle for 3/4 of my 41 years, being genetically predisposed for obesity & diabetes, etc) that make me different from someone else who does not have those factors. So it's understandable that I may not lose as fast or that my body fat % is on the high end of the normal range. It doesn't change the fact that I want things a certain way...I'm just learning to be thankful for where I am today and that I am not existing in a morbidly obese body anymore. I'm off glucophage and blood pressure pills and my blood pressure is normal for the first time since high school!! My cholesterol reading was 142 at my 6 month checkup...it's never been that low! I'm still working on trying to reach goal and hopefully one day getting into something smaller than a size 14, but if it doesn't happen then I'm a thousand times better off than where I was a year ago.
Don't be so hard on yourself and take an inventory of the little successes you've made along the way. You're doing great. Hope you find some peace with your head and emotions...it's hard but you can do it! Take care!

Topic: RE: Protein shakes?
Hi Carolyn,
Sorry to hear about your diagnosis...keep the faith about the treatment working (I know some folks with HepC and they're now doing fine).
I still do 2 protein drinks a day because still having issues with certain types of foods. Now that it's colder I mainly drink my protein as hot chocolate or protein lattes. I've always made my protein shakes & drinks with milk because I know I need the added calcium and protein from the milk. Some WLS patients and their docs feel you shouldn't add extra calories to your protein drinks, but mine is okay with it (and IMHO it makes them taste better!). Plus, the added protein will help you out once you start treatment.
Take care and good luck!

Lisa best of luck in your quest for a better you. It is not by any means an easy road to travel but with the support you will find in others who traveled this road you too will succeed. I have found that there is no question that will go unanswered if asked on this site. Honesty is always forthcoming in answers whether good, bad or in the middle. If one person does not have an answer you can bet someone else does. It is great to go to the site where the people you are communicating with share your surgery month. The timeframe is similar but if you have a need for a reponse from someone maybe a little longer out the general messege board or a different month site might be a better choice. I have used this since I started my trip to weight loss and feel a real connection to these people even though I have never met most of them. Again the best of luck, God Bless and have a great holiday. Peg

Thank you all for the replies. I have already had a shake for breakfast and will have another one for lunch. I will drink as much water in between as possible. I know the little water I drink can cause dehydration. I do take a centrum multi vitamin and b12 everyday. Have a Mery Xmas!!! CArolyn Faye
