Topic: anemia
I am over 2 years out from surgery and am doing great except for one thing. I am anemic. They have tried doubling my dosage, taking two dosages at different times during the day, taking it with orange juice (or something acidic to help it absorb), they did a procedure to lesson my heavy periods, and now they are sending me to a GI Dr to check for colon cancer as anemia is a symptom of colon cancer and it happens to have occurred on my Dad's side of the family. I am kind of worked up about it but don't really feel like I have cancer. I go to the GI Dr for a consult today. My ankles and legs have been swelling up which is why I went to the Dr in the first place and she told me that is a symptom of anemia after ruling out most other causes of swelling. Anyway, I am writing to see how common it is for patients of our surgery to battle with anemia still after 2+ years. Any advice? Thanks, Rhonda

Stacy, I could have written your post. I had surgery the same day as you. And I too, play with the same few pounds. Mine can be 5 to 8 pounds on any given week. Then I will go back to my 162 and stay there for a few days and then it starts ALL over again. I believe before its over I will probably end up gaining the few pounds I play with, but I hope not. I do everything I can to get them off. I get so frustrated. Its always in the back of my mind that I will wake up at 312 lbs again, and it scares the He!! out of me. Rhonda

I felt as though I was the only one who has been playing yo yo with this new weight loss. I get frustrated because I can eat almost anything, except ice cream with hot fudge, spoke to me immediately, and I am about 10 lbs up and down my final weight out of two years. I am still in a size ten eleven and large or med shirts. I am perplexed at what i should do now, please help! I have considered weight loss pills and maybe even diet programs. I dont want that, if I wanted that, I wouldnt have gone under this procedure. Puffy, not puffy, puffy, not puffy

Linda, Best of luck to you! I feel your pain as I've gained 10 pounds and am so afraid that this will continue. I about cried yesterday because I got out my summer clothes from last year and many of them are too tight. So, I'm getting serious about exercising again and have upped my protein drinks to help curb hunger and get me through carb withdrawal. Like Pat said in her post, this is something we will deal with daily for the rest of our lives. Let us know how you're doing and email me anytime you need support! Mary Ellen

Well, I can be totally honest with my family. I joined weigh****chers. I have slowly been allowing bad habits to creep back in and have found that I gained 25 lbs. I worked too hard to let this happen. So, I decided I needed accountability and a healthy eating program. Today is my first full day on the program. My goal is to lose all my "excess" weight before my son comes home on leave. I haven't seen him in 2 years! Or should I say....he hasn't seen me in 2 years and never at this weight. I want to look my best. I will keep you all posted. Linda

Topic: Help!!! Is it too late?
Okay, I recently gained between 8-12 pounds depending on the day and depending on what my lowest weight was. I never got down to my goal wait. I had surgery in January 2005 and was pregnant in May of 2005...Crazy!!! I was down throughout my pregnancy...thinner much thinner than now. I was about 245 and by my pregnancy was down to 175 (only gained 22 pounds during pregnancy) After may baby was born I went as low as 170 but maintained 174 for the longest time. My surgeon was thrilled although I had always planned to get to between 150-160. I am now 182-188 up and down.( baby was a year in february)...I know I am not doing anything I am supposed...and will get back on track because I know that is what I have to do. My biggest concern is that I have totally screwed up the surgery and totally stretched out my stomach. I fell off the wagon for a few months or a little more and can be considered the poster child for what not to do...eat junk, drink soda (diet soda of course), not eat regular meals etc... is it too late? Or will I start to bounce back when I get on the program? I appreciate any input...
