Ran a 5K today!!
Margaret, First of all, Thank you!! Okay here is what I did to get myself up to running a 5K. First I started out just running 4 minutes at a time on the treadmill. I don't know why I picked 4 min. I just did. I did this until I felt like I could do more. Then I just upped it one minute at a time until I could go for 1 mile. I kept trying to get to where I could run a mile in 10 minutes. I ran 1 mile for months then I upped my time, about 5 min. at a time, until I got to 2 miles. I did the same for running 3 miles as well. I got to where I can run 3 miles at a time now. I try to get to where I can run each mile in 10 min., that is just my personal goal for now. I try to run at least 3-4 days a week.
I know this might sound confusing but this is just how I did it. I am sure that a personal trainer would tell you exactly how to do it right.
I hope this helps!!

Margaret, My husband just reminded me to add something to what I told you. I also had been doing the Eliptical for 30-45 min. 3-5 days a week as well. I now do the Eliptical for 45min-1 hour. I had been walking for 30 min. before I started running. When I started running the 4 min. I would continue to walk an additional 30 min. as well. I was lifting weights, arms & legs, as well. Just thought I would let you know this info as well. As he reminded me this also helped me train.
Hope this all helps!!

Victoria, Thanks!!!!! I actually started last summer. I worked at a slow pace. I never liked running before but now I actually like it. I usually run in our little town and I definately take my IPOD to listen to. I put in really upbeat music to help me keep a pace. I do have to take it easy running now though because of the hernia I have. The doctor told me to be careful until I have it fixed. I am waiting on insurance to approve it now. Keeping my fingers crossed!! So I can't run as much as I usually do until it is repaired. UGH!!!! There are so many 5K's around here, just about every weekend, and I would love to do them so that I can work up to a 10K. That is my next goal, a 10K.
Okay lady take care!!!
How is the mommy to be????
