Hernia questions
Hello all:
I went for my one year check up today and was told I have a hernia. Does anyone know why gastric bypass surgery causes a hernia? My surgeon didn't seem that worried about it but I am now freaking out because I want to make sure I can still exercise and not aggravate it. I also have a Disney vacation planned for March. Any information would be really appreciated. Thanks!
Hello Lisa,
When you were cut for the surgery, it poked a hole in your stomach wall. Well, the hole never heals 100% therefore it is weaken. A hernia happens when your intestines poke through.
Some people don't even need to have surgery to get one. You can still work out however once it bothers you, you'll need to get it fix. Most insurance companies paid for a tummy tuck at the same time. Nice deal.
Take it easy and you'll make it to Disney. If you pu**** you'll feel it.
Take care,
Jen
I have had three hernia since my surgery, my first hernia was repaired when I had the gastric bypass. When you go on vacation, if you havent had it repaired yet, make sure you have some kind of supportive undergarments or even maybe a abdominal binder to wear while you are walking around and things. Just make sure there is some kind of support and that will help with the pain and any tearing or making the hernia bigger.
