My Pet Peeve Question!

Ok, this is the one thing since having surgery that drives me crazy! I am very open with the fact that I had surgery and I don't mind talking about it at all, but the question that drives me crazy is~~~~~ "Not to be rude, but, just how much weight have you lost???" ~or~ "Not to be 'too' personal, but how much weight have you lost??" Ahhh, it drives me crazy! My husband doesn't even have the exact number of pounds I have lost, LOL! Once I got to where I had lost 100lbs, I figured that if I told my exact weightloss, people could easily add what I'd lost to what they figure my current weight to be and come up with the HUGE weight I started out at, LOL! Maybe I'm just being oversensitive. My girlfriend and I talked about this recently and she said that people have even approached her to ask how much weight I've lost (she doesn't have the answer to that question and also thinks its rude of people to ask that!) So anyway, does this question bother you? Is there a different question that is your pet peeve since having wls?? I guess the only ones that know exactly how much I've lost are all of you and that's fine with me b/c I know you can relate in some way and you understand Hugs, Tracy B 328/164/150

I don't mind the how much have you lost questions but the questions that gets under my skin is..."So, do you think you'll have plastic surgery?" I think that's totally rude. Would you go up to a woman with a flat chest and say, "So, do you think you'll have plastic surgery?" Rhonda

Mine is when they feel the need to call me names like"skinny minny" or "slim". Ugh I still weigh over 200lbs. I'm sure there are a lot better things you could say to me. How bout "you look great".

Tracy, You look good and that is what matters not the size or amount right! The question doesn't so much get under my skin as much as people hear a number and focus on the results not the process or the other intanglibles like emotion and spiritual changes. My fear is wls becomes a the new fad diet ... it's not. It's a new life.

First of all you look great! I too have been very open about my surgery. It bothers me when some people ask me and I usually change the subject. The funny thing is that the people who I would tell, don't ask, they have more manners than that! My biggest pet peeves are like Stacey said the comments about "Skinny Minnie" or better yet, my personal favorite "Bone Bag". And I really love, "you are going to shrivel up and blow away", it amazes me how many different people have used that one. What?!? No, WTF?!? Who says these things to people, do they leave their brains at home somedays? But I balance those with the highlights, like my 8 year old hugging me around my waist and saying "Mom, you are so hard", his little buddy telling me that I look beautiful and another one asking me if I got taller. Leave it to the 8 year old boys to say the right things and have more common sense than adults. Becki 1/18/05 297/126 5'8"

My worst one is "Is your husband getting worried?" Worried about what? I love him dearly, and what kind of person do they take me for! Some people joke, but some are serious. I think it's an insult to the both of us in soooo many ways.

Margo, I have to agree with you on this one! I have had serveral people say to my HUSBAND "wow, you better watch out now" or "You better keep an eye on her" like I'm going to do what???? Suddenly cheat on my dear husband~NO WAY!!!! I love him with all my heart, he stuck by my thru thick and thin (literally), he's the love of my life and has nothing to worry about! I agree, that is an insult in a BIG way! Hugs, Tracy B
