What Kind of Support does your doc give?
I am wondering what kind of support system, or after care progam everyones doctors have provide over the past 11 months? Mine really has no system just fallow up appointments once in a while. I have kind of created my own after care, I go to see my thereapist 2 times a month, I go to the gym (though this is really a more recent event). I tried going to support groups but that was not for me. How about you guys?
Jenn
My doctor's program includes a support group meeting 2 times a month. The topics discussed are very informative and helpful. I also have a nurse that I can call anytime along with a nutritonist. The head of patient relations is very helpful and is at every support group meeting. We also have each other's email addresses from the supprt group meetings. I love OSU's bariatric program and will lhate to leave it when I move.
Jenn,
At US Bariatric we have a large support group once a month that breaks into two smaller groups, one for those over six months out and one for those past six month. I use to go to them every month but they now conflict with my workouts so I haven't been going. I really got a lot out of them. The over six month group is lead by a psychologist who's had the surgery and they discuss emotional issues, which is very helpful.
Every Thursday I meet with 6 women who've had the surgery. This group has been an blessing to me in so many ways. We're all at different stages of our lives and in our weight lose so I've learned a lot from them.
I also include my trainer(s) in my support system. I know I wouldn't work out if I didn't have accountability so I found a trainer. Her name is Melissa and she had WLS 6 years ago. Working out with her was great however in August she had to stop working due to some injuries. So I found another place to train until she gets well. The new place is great. It's at the Orlando Regional Medical Center's Fitness Center. There's a program called Choose to Lose. I see a trainer 3X a week and it's been working out well. They weigh and measure me once a month and there's a nutritionist there if you want to see her. (I don't because I think she's clueless about obesity and WLS.)
I'm also very grateful for the support of this website and the folks I met from here. When we come together we're a powerful force to behold!
Since you're in Orlando, if you ever want to talk or get together drop me an email!
